I took the summer course and failed, so for the past 2 weeks, I've been extremely depressed and really thinking about getting out of the predental run. Ugh!!!! I don't want to quit, though!!!

But now, I think I should just retake the course =P Although I feel a little burnt out, it's probably wiser to take it in the Fall than to wait in the Spring, right? Unfortunately, the university where I was taking it doesn't offer it in the Fall. 🙁

Is it unadviseable to take it in a local community college? Thing is, I'm going to have tons of transcripts-- one from my undergrad college in Massachusetts and summer schools (NYU and Rutgers). Should I just stick to the institute where I took Orgo II? I think I can find other schools-- like Seton Hall or NJIT that offer Orgo II, but it's sort of small pickings. 👎

Thanks...

No one is telling you to quit, other than yourself. Suck it up, and move on. Re-take it, even if it means going to a CC, but be prepared to explain yourself, if, in the event, adcoms ask about it during an interview. SHouldn't be a problem though, go for it!

I agree - its just one little course and please don't dash your dreams because of it. If you feel you would benefit from some time off (go backpack through Europe!) then go for it and come back to organic and school with a renewed out-look. Organic is a tough course and requires a lot of time. If you retake the class and receive a good grade then adcoms will look favorably upon that as it shows a.) you can stick with things, b.) it will reflect a positive progression in your grades. Hang in there! 👍

Its not a big deal as long as there isn't a pattern. The schools realize you're human and allow you some mistakes. I too failed O-chem 2 the first time I took it and then retook it with a different professor but at the same school and got an A- in the course. During my interview they didn't even mention that F.

There are a few people in life that manage to perform perfectly in ever situation, however that is not the norm. Truth is everyone fails at something sometime. You've got to look at the big picture. Everyone has setbacks. So you have to take a class over again. Big deal. You have too look at the big picture. You are planning on spending 8 years in school at least. So who cares if you have to re-take a few classes and perhaps finish school in 9 years instead.

In ten years from now when you are happily practicing dentistry. It won't make any difference to you that you had to re-take O-chem, and it won't matter that you spent some extra time in school. Think long term about set backs. 👍

I failed GENERAL chem II and still wound up with a degree in chemical engineering. 😉 You shouldn't let your performance in one course determine your overall ability to succeed.
