Every main attending in Grey's Anatomy has the FACS title. Is this title easy to get?

you have to be a BC surgeon in good standing who is an active/ contributing member to the american college of surgeons

what advantages/benefits should we expect when we become a FACS? Is it just for more prestige or is it an actual requirement to be a FACS for appointment to academic positions? Do most surgeons apply for this?

Seems like the application process is somewhat troublesome and there's also an application fee. I don't need extra work and scrutiny if it's not neccessary.

It's just 4 extra letters that you can pay to have put after your name. Means you're a "member of the club". Yup, it's worth it.
