Greetings All:

Considering that most of the residency apps are not 100% complete until about early November, what factors (e.g. grades, board scores) do you think the programs take into account for the initial screening process?

There was another thread on this a while back, perhaps from a prior cycle. It seems program directors can set ERAS to screen in or out a wide variety of things, and each PD will focus on a slightly different set of criteria. But certainly numbers are going to be big initial screening tools for a lot of the more competitive specialties.

It is extremely variable.

Some programs will screen for country of origin/FMG status, others for USMLE scores, some a combination.

I'd say the most common screen would be for those two variables, with grades way down the line.

Yeah, it would be hard to screen for grades anyhow since so many schools use different grading systems.
