Hello!

I am beginning to choose between schools and just had a quick question. I am curious to know if the background of the faculty influenced your decision of where you committed to.

There are many programs where the PT faculty all went to the same particular DPT program and are now teaching there. There are also other programs where the PT faculty went to schools all over the nation which to me says that the program is a diverse broad-based program. Is there con to having the faculty be in-bred? Some of the most reputable programs have a completely in-bred faculty and I was curious to know peoples opinions on this.

If the faculty is completely in-bred there is a reason that they are coming back to their alma mater but at the same time, if they were taught under one system, do they only represent their school of thought?

Anyways, would love some input on this. Thanks!

So, the only thing I really looked at faculty wise was are they PhDs or only DPTs. Some schools allow professors to teach with only a DPT and others do not. It comes down to a personal preference. A professor with a DPT and clinical experience will tell you what to do but a professor with a PhD, DPT and clinical experience can very clearly lay out WHY you want to do this and WHY it is better than another way. Since the field is become more and more research based I enjoy having that in my program.

A con of that program would be how do you know the information they are giving you is the best and most up to date information? If they all learned it from the same source.
