i'm a little confused: on the front of the fafsa application is a list of deadlines for different states (e.g. CA is 3/2) - presumably for state aid. freaking out, i called the financial aid offices of a couple of schools, who told me that these deadlines have no bearing on incoming med students... the schools seem to have set their own deadlines.

anyone know what the deal is?

As with any other step in this process, it behooves you to get your paperwork in ASAP. FAFSA determines your financial need and whether or not you qualify for grants. There's also institutional aid available from the individual medschools, which is separate from federal aid programs, but STILL relies on data you provide on your FAFSA. Long story short, get your paperwork turned in, unless of course you're independently wealthy, then don't worry about it.
