Failing Step 2 CS

Hello!

I am applying for pathology residency this cycle. I just took Step 2 CS and fear I may have failed. I can take it again this spring and pass in plenty of time for July 1st, but I won't have my retake score until after programs rank their students. Am I automatically not ranked if I fail Step 2 CS? Or does it vary by program? Thank you for any insight.

Sadly it's easy to get into Pathology. If you are genuinely interested in Pathology and willing to move you should have no problems.

I am at a large community hospital program and some of the applicants we get are like wtf? Path is filled with international grads (not saying they are all bad) some of whom seem to be just looking to get into a residency, any residency. Sadly, some apply to Path as a backup.

There are too many training programs in Path opening the floodgates to poor candidates who shouldn't be in Path to begin with.

I've seen applicants who have no idea what Pathology is all about or do t even know what they are getting into.

95% chance you didn't fail.

Even if you did, no one in Pathology cares. You just retake and move on with your life.

I failed at Fallout 76 last night, the impact of this on my present career arc will be roughly the same as you failing some clinical skills test for Pathology....

Majority of people feel this way and end up passing anyway. This exam is very forgiving.

Unfortunately, if you really do fail and don't have a passing score until rank order list deadline (February 20th), and you are an IMG - you are automatically withdrawn from the Match for this year.

If you are an AMG rules are different.
