Fake LOR?

My question is, if by next week or two weeks I dont get that darn letter, can I write the letter myself, put it under his name (or maybe some unknown name?), sign it, and mail it? will this work? can residency directors find out? I know it's a dirty thing to do, but I may have no choice but that. Any suggestions??

Samer, I think this would be a kiss of death for your application. Instead, why don't you ask the Doc if he would like you to go ahead and write the letter and have you bring it to him. He can proof read it sign it and send it on to the proper people.
Alternately, I would ask the guys who don't know you as well, a letter from guys who don't know you as well is better than no letter at all.

It is never a good idea to be dishonest.

Many PD's will actually call the letter writers, especially if they want more information on a candidate who's on the fence. LORs are very important. And, you don't necessarily have the "real" reason why this guy hasn't sent your letter in. Maybe he's really trying to tell you that he doesn't want to write one in a textbook passive-aggressive way, but just can't be direct with you (which would be sad, really, but stranger things have happened). Now, imagine he gets a follow-up call from a PD asking about the letter he wrote for you... you'd be f*cked.

Write the letter yourself. Take it to the admin/secretary in the department, get her to photocopy it on school/department/hospital letterhead, give it to the guy to sign in front of you, make a copy of the signed letter and give it back to him, and then mail the thing to ERAS yourself.

Go to this guy in person sooner rather than later. If you can't do what I outlined above, get another letter writer... and quick! We're getting down to the wire, here. You should've had this kind of stuff locked-up a long time ago.

yea man i gotta agree with them, besides it's not all that bad just alot of work. You should really be used to it by now I'd think.

I think 8 outta 10 times you could get away w/ it but tis still not worth it. If you happen to be that 20% where the PD calls and figures out its a fake you risk everything. He could then easly report you to eras and your application would be terminated and possibly marked on eras for life so even next year they would know.

Sometimes actions speak louder than words. To the OP: Make certain that the doc you asked for the letter of reccomendation really wants to write you one! Sometimes people just dont want to tell it to your face directly and, instead, "skirt" the issue - which is very disasterous for the deadlined applicant. Good luck with you situation. Don't write a fake it, karma is bad - it'll catch up with you somehow.
