Congrats! Did you hear from U Wash today? Was it through email or letter? I haven't received anything from them. Were you able to check your application at some point? Also when was your application complete?
I am still waiting to hear from all the schools you mentioned.

Well i got into U.Wash about two weeks ago. They emailed me about the acceptance. The same with Columbia , which i have gotten into a few hours ago.

As for which school i'll choose in the end. I guess it has to be Hopkins , unless ofcourse either Emory or Columbia gives me a nice scholarship. Chances of that however appear dim and if i have to spend money to study anyway id do it at Hopkins and no where else from my impression of things.

What about you ? :luck: Which schools have u applied to and gotten through at this time. ?

Hi, If you don't mind sharing...when did you apply and when did you hear back from Hopkins? It's my reach and I've yet to hear back.

Thanks & Congratulations!

I'm headed to BU this fall, MPH in Health Policy & Management (part-time) 🙂

Anyone with me?

Responding back to johnnyquest2009's q: I heard from BU today via snail mail (dated 2/14), submitted complete app to SOPHAS on 12/5, got an email from BU on 1/24 saying it was on an admission person's desk and would be another 6-8 weeks. Hope that helps...

waiting on the financial situation... and i have no idea why i applied to so many schools... but i've received acceptances to...
Johns Hopkins, University of Michigan, University of Washington, Emory University, Boston University, University of California at Berkeley
My stats are average, GPA >3.0, GRE >1400, reasonable volunteer and epidemiology related experiences.

For those of you who've received acceptances from BU, how long did it take for them to get back to you? I applied very very late but I've heard nothing AT ALL from them except for the received application email. I'm almost beginning to wonder if they are even processing my application!

Kang: i got an email saying they received my application on Jan 25 and then another email saying my application was complete on Feb 13th.. i have no idea why it took this long since everythign was turned in..but it did.. and then tehy said that it'll take 6-8 weeks from that point.. still waiting to hear back..

I got a Fedex letter at home on 22nd jan , the letter was sent out on the 17th of Jan however and it took this long coz im in India.

You may also be able to view your decision via the web-portal.. have you tried that ? it was only after i recieved my letter that i tried viewing the online portal.

good luck :luck:

sorry i forgot to reply about when i applied : I submitted my online application on 11th november , however they took almost a month to acknowledge the receipt of my transcripts and other application materials. I hope this helps.

Kang:
My situation was different than Publichealthfan.
I received an email from BU on Jan. 25th saying that they received my application on Jan 25th, and then I also received another email the same day that my application was completed too. Although I havent received a acceptance/rejection yet(but again I am not at my mailing address, so maybe I have)

I completed application at SOPHAS on Jan 30th.

GPA and GRE verified by SOPHAS Monday, Feb 11th - set for "next weekly mailing"

SOPHAS Mailed to BU on Tuesday FEB 19th

Yesterday (Feb 21st) got email from BU that my SOPHAS transmission had been received, and that I'd get an email when it was verified as complete and sent on to Admin Committee.

(they're still waiting on paper from SOPHAS maybe?) - haven't gotten that 2nd email yet, but it was just yesterday after all.

So, I'd say moving fairly fast. Here's hoping.

How frequently do Admission Committees meet, anyhow? Just curious.

DJ

Yeah alot faster than mine.
My application with SOPAS was complete Dec 9th ish, so am still waiting myself.

I'm accepted to HARVARD!! Woohoo! Health Policy and Management, management track!!!!

I got a letter yesterday from Penn State informing me that I had not been accepted into their MHA program...it's funny because I never applied to that school. I requested information from them last summer, but that was all. Has anyone else ever had this happen to them? Are they just saying I applied to pad their admission stats ?

congratulations generals!! you have so many excellent choices to choose from now. is that the mph or sm2? i had also applied hpm, but for the sm2 degree since i don't have a medical degree.

that's good to hear that decisions are finally coming! =)

Current stats on admissions decisions:

Accept: BU (Maternal Child Health), OSU (International Health), Emory (Global Health)
Conditional Accept: Columbia (Reproductive and Asolescent Health) - caveat is that I must complete one more year of fill time work experience prior to matriculation. Could be good (stay with boyfriend, work for a year, make some money, pay down undergrad loans, get to go to Columbia etc...) or not so great (have to work for a year, have to start paying loans, have to look for a job etc...) - not so sure what to do here, any input??
Waiting: USC, Tulane, Berkeley and Harvard

Any advice on the wait for a year for Columbia/go somewhere else right now, would be appreciated. Feel free to PM me.

unless you feel confident that you could get a job during this year that would give you marketable skills that you could use in the future, id be hesitant to wait a year, considering you already got into Emory.

just got bu today - health management concentration.

Accepted: USC (conditional - GPA 3.0 for 1st 6 units in program)
Rejected: UCLA
Waiting: Berkeley & SDSU

Accepted into Michigan, Columbia for their MPH programs and Harvard for its MHS program in Health Policy and Management. If anybody is in the same boat and is having lots of trouble deciding, would love to discuss options with someone else!

I notice alot of people qualifying themselves by GRE and GPA. I am not on any admissions committee but I suspect GRE matters very little to these programs. I think the letter of intent, GPA / institution from, and CV. I bet most universities just use a cut off to evaluate GRE scores.

I wonder if recommendations are a big deal?

I have completed a masters and am applying to doctorate public health programs right now so my reject/acceptances might not offer much to this forum.

Anyone else applying for PhD's?

and has anyone heard anything from Harvard? Someone mentioned they had already informed certain degrees of a wait list?

take care guys, good luck!

PHealthMan-- I too have been wondering whether there are any PhD applicants on here and specifically whether anyone has heard from Harvard (I haven't heard yet-- any idea when and how they will release their decision? The suspense is killing me...). Best of luck to you!

How soon after your interview did you hear from minnesota
/

Were you accepted to OSU's MHA program or MPH?

Accepted: Columbia, Emory, George Washington, Tulane, University of Minnesota
Waiting: Boston Univeristy

been two weeks since my application completed at dartmouth and i havent received anything so far..........its very torturing :scared:

Yale - MS in CDE, notified by department today.

Hang in there mesh! The first wave of acceptees are due to pay their deposits by the end of this week, so more room should be opening up once Dartmouth knows how full there class is so far.

Just got an Email from Michigan and I got into their EPI program!! Yeah... Still waiting to hear from the UWash....

Well maybve i spoke too soon. I got a letter saying "congradulations on your acceptance" and an invitiation to the accepted students day. However, it made it sound like I already knew that I was accepted (I haven't heard anything) . Nothing on wolverine has been updated... What would you think? Has this happened to anyone else?

citrinne - that seems like a formal acceptance to me, congrats!

I got an email from u.mich congratulating me on admission into the epi program and inviting me for the visit day on 14th March.. but i am confused , the wolverine access site dosent even show a decision status link!!!! moreover i would be less confused if the greeting of the mail was dear xyz , instead its dear admitted students... what if this mail is sent to all applicants and only congratulates those who have got through and invites them over .. how RUDE if that is true.

I really dont think you have anything to worry about.
One school I was accepted into: I never heard anything from them until they emailed me telling me I had been awarded a scholarship. I replied asking if that also meant that I was accepted or not, or if this would be a scholarship that I would be awarded if accepted.

Another school: THey emailed me with the acceptance, but it didnt show up online for a week.

I use to work at a top 10 law school. Some of these admissions offices have a staff of 20+ and while one person may be responsible for emailing out information, the weblink information maybe someone else's job, or have to be done by a different department.

But if you have that much doubt, just email them. They will get to your email as quick as they can.

That's what mine says. The second line said congratulations... how strange. My other decision letter have been much more clear....

Hi ! Thanks a lot! I did email the people at Michigan and they confirmed that i had ben admitted to the epi program. Congratulations to others who have recieved this email as well.

update:

accepted: U of Michigan Epi (with 1/4 off out of state tuition)
U of Minnesota Epi
Boston U Epi

rejected: none

  • 1/4 off of Michigan tuition still comes to $24,000/year! MPH debt will not be a part of my future. I am going to head to Minnesota where the tuition is cheaper and the grad. student assistantship opportunities are much better.

My friends in that program have said that it is horrible for GAs. My understanding was that if you're in the MPH program, you were pretty much stuck with loans and any scholarships you could come up with (unless there's something extraordinary about you).

Accepted to UIC today, even though I never sent in the secondary application. Just shows how irrelevant those are.

the uic secondary app didnt even need an essay, it was like, name address etc. all over again...

i still receive emails about how they're missing one of my transcripts, even though i've already been accepted with scholarship.

Speaking of scholarships for those who have received them, were you notified in the initial acceptance letter or at a later date?

for uic, it was in my initial acceptance letter. the response deadline has actually passed, so i guess i gave up my spot and scholarship. -shrug-

Just got my acceptance to Hopkins MHS in Health Finance and Management!

take a look at this document here. It describes all your options and how you are able to become a GRA/GTA in any department in the entire university unlike most schools of public health that only allow you to work within their school. Since my background is as a biochem lab technician, I hope that I can teach an intro bio section (which there are tons of) or be a research assistant somewhere in the health sciences. If you work 10 hrs/week, you pay in-state tuition and are cut a discount off of that depending upon how much you work past 10 hrs each week = super cheap tuition. I know that getting a position in the epi dept. is very rare, but those positions are very common in bio and chem depts.

Accepted to Columbia (health management) today too! When it rains, it pours!

just notice this thread:

Acceptence: Emory, U Michigan, Yale
Rejection: UC berkeley
Waiting: Harvard, Columbia, UCLA

How do you think Yale? I do not know why Yale ranks so low.
