Congrats on UCLA! I too am waiting nervously to hear back from either Cal or UCLA. I can imagine that my hands will shake too when I get that email. 🙂

Is UCLA your top choice?

Deem, that's fantastic!

knitPHgurl, I'm pulling for you =)

I am also waiting to hear from Cal and UCLA along with Washington. Those are definitely my top three and I am getting pretty nervous! I also applied to Community Health Sciences so now I will be checking my email more than ever! Actually, I don't think thats possible.

I am currently trying to log onto the http://gdnet.ucla.edu/ so I can check my application status but the site won't load.

Coincidence or an overload of the system? Hmmm...

Deem is that where you saw your acceptance at?

Hey all,

I found out I was accepted to Emory on Feb. 1st. Sent in application Jan. 10th. Less than a month; I was very impressed! Not sure if I will accept but now I don't have to apply to my "safety" schools!!!

Still waiting on:
Harvard
Hopkins
UIC
BU

Apps still to be completed:
UNC (due next week--yeah...I wait til the last minute...:nono:)
GW (due in April)
U Minnesota (due in April)

Checked my status for UGA and it says decision made and sent to grad school ;___;

UGH... I just want to know ;__;

For UGA, I got my acceptance via snail mail (Feb 1) about a week after the site updated to "decision made"... It never changed on the UGA site and just changed on SOPHAS today.

It'll come soon! =)
Thank you 🙂 I tried calling but they said they couldn't tell me haha but I would probably hear in about a week. Thank you for the heads up!!

Did your application status online update as well? or did you just receive snail mail?

Deem23:

I was accepted into UNC HBHE. Found out via snail mail. Small envelope--scared me at first, but was good news! Also got into BU, Johns Hopkins, and Emory (all International health).

Graduated May 09. Working 1 year as an health promotion outreach coordinator at a medical school. Fluent in spanish/portuguese, lived abroad, etc.

4.0 gpa/680 v/800 q/5 a

UNC seems great, and I'd love to live in Chapel Hill. The only concern I have is that HBHE isn't exactly what I want to study. I'm more interested in global health program management. But the HBHE dept seemed like a really supportive environment, plus inexpensive.

Yea I was hoping there would be a way to check online but the link and account creating thing it says to create an account won't let me.

I've been running home everyday to check my mail to no avail.

The few of us that heard from MCH didn't have our online status' change. We were notified by mail.

Hey, Deem23 (and others),

I'm sort of confused as how you heard from UNC HBHE already when the apps aren't even due?! When did you send in your application?

I'm wondering if it's even worth it for me to still apply/i.e. if there are spots left.

Thanks!!

Many of the schools have priority deadlines/final deadlines. UNC had a priority deadline for that concentration (Dec 15th). While most of the time it deals with funding, many applicants have their apps in by that date. Many schools are also rolling. For GW the final deadline is April but many people have apps in since Nov and have decisions already. Many schools enrollment deposit deadlines fall in April. Keep that in mind if you wait until March to submit you may be asked to make some commitments to some while you're waiting on others.

Congratulations!! So cool. UCLA is my first choice as well, but for epi. Can I ask you if you received an email from UCLA regarding the receipt of your transcripts? When UCLA got my SOPHAS and gradnet applications, they told me to expect an email regarding the receipt of my transcripts in February and... it's February! 😱 I'm not sure if I will receive that email, since I did my undergrad at UCLA and they don't need to have my transcripts sent there (but I did do some JC stuff that I did have sent there)... Rambling!

jhk730 - Like JMM051 said. UNC has a priority deadline like most schools and theirs was Dec. 15. If you go to website for HBHE it specifically says:

"Our admissions are done on a rolling basis. When people submit early (or by January 1st), in most years, they have a slightly higher chance of gaining acceptance than if they wait until the last week applications are due and many decisions have already been made."

http://www.sph.unc.edu/hbhe/faqs_218_10509.html

Deem and Unique both said they submitted by Dec. 15

Not to put pressure on you, but your app to Minnesota is also way late as their priority deadline is in Dec. (I've already heard back even though it was a denial, however many others have heard in the positive). I'm just wondering why you decided to apply so late to the schools? At least for Minnesota you might want to get it in sooner rather than later.

Bchengreat, congrats on all your acceptances! How did you hear back from Michigan? And which epi program did you apply to there?

Found out today I got into UIC and Emory. (only programs I applied to)
I have no idea what I'm going to do!
I have an MD, so could do UIC in one year, and I'm currently in Chicago (thought not sure if I've been here long enough to qualify for in state tuition). UIC seems to be the most practical decision, but Emory is very appealing.

Michigan emailed me, and said they will send me the formal package soon, I applied to the general epidemiology program as my first choice and molecular epi as my second, but since i got accepted into my first i'm not sure about molecular epi. Good Luck with your applications!!! hope you hear from them soon!

Congrats!! What concentrations did you apply to and what was the time frame for UIC?

Also, since you're in Chicago, did you get a chance to visit the school before applying?

Just got an unofficial congratulatory email from UT Houston. It said I should check SOPHAS in a day or two to see the decision updated and expect the official letter in the mail. I'm really excited, but also a little confused, because although I e-submitted 1/13, SOPHAS is sending out my apps in next week's mailing. Has this happened to anyone else?

I think some of the schools can access our application online through the SOPHAS portal, however, SOPHAS still sends out the physical application.

Haha and if I'm completely wrong, well, you still got in. Congrats!!

I have not visited, but might try to now to help my decision. Though I think it would make the most sense for me to go to UIC.
My sophas app was mailed on 1/26.

To be considered for in-state tuition at UIC, you have to have been working in IL for at least a year.

If you visit UIC, let us know what you think about it!

Ah, thank you for the info Curious and JMM!

As for UNC, I didn't realize it was rolling--I just thought it was for $$ purposes. I knew about the December deadline for scholarships, but when I visited they basically told me they were scholarships I probably wasn't going to get anyway (e.g. most were going to doctoral or in-state students, neither of which I am). I am kicking myself because I must have read their website 15 times and never saw that quote. Application daze?

The main reason I am applying late to the schools is so I can avoid paying the application fees, if possible! Since my top choices are all due by February, I am assuming/hoping I will hear back before the April final deadline for schools like Minnesota and GWU. I know it doesn't seem like a lot, but those $40 fees add up when you're trying to support yourself. But thank you for the tip, I am going to go double check Minnesota right now!--luckily I have the application completed if need be!

Congratulations to everyone! The wait is almost over 🙂

I decided to finally make an account after reading threads all fall.

SOPHAS mailed out my apps mid January.

I found out this weekend I got into UIC, U Minnesota, and Emory for Epi! I was really impressed with how quickly I heard from these programs. I was expecting to wait a few more weeks. And the thought of living in Atlanta while I am stuck in freezing temperatures is sounding pretty good this weeek😉

I am still waiting on responses from a lot of programs, but I am most interested in Washington, Yale, Michigan, and Harvard.

Stats:
GPA: 3.3 in Biology from top tier school
V 610 Q 740 W 5.5
Domestic and international pub health research experience.

Good luck to everyone!

I was accepted to Mercer today (I may be the only person on this board that applied there) by snail mail.

I also received my official letter from USF.

jhk730 - Understandable!! When I got ready to apply I was expecting to pay tons of cash and spent months saving to send all my applications at once. (I couldn't deal with the stress of working on applications for extended periods haha and also worried that I needed to apply as early as possible with my stats).

Anyway, definitely call the schools and see what they say, there should still be time 🙂 Good Luck!!

Congratulations on the acceptances!

I got an email from Michigan saying that I am 'academically admissible' to their 42 credit hour MPH degree program but before they can send me an official letter of admission I need to provide some financial documents.

In simpler terms, does this mean I'm accepted?😕
What is meant by 42 credit hours?

i finally received an email from yale stating that my application is complete. can anyone offer intel as to how long it took for a decision from this point? thanks.

42 credit hours are the amount of credits you need to take in order to complete the degree. Most schools listed the required courses and how many credits they are on their website.

For example, your core classes for the school may be three each..some electives 2. You need to have 42 credits to complete the degree.
