so, I know this isn't really important in the grand scheme of things when choosing a residency program, but I was wondering what you all have heard about which hospitals are the nicest? ie who has the best call rooms, the best restaurants open late, lots of computers, cushy chairs in the conference rooms, the cheeriest hallways, nice artwork etc. Yeah I know I know totally unimportant compared to reputation, quality of teaching, and the comraderie. but i just visited a friend in london and her hospital was AMAZING... which would make those long hours go by faster i think.

sounds like you're going into derm...

🙂 no actually internal medicine. I'd die of boredom in derm.
but don't tell me i'm the only one who considers/cares about hospital facilities.

In my experience Children's Hospitals in general tend to be nicer than their adult counterparts. I assume this has something to do with the fact that people are more willing to donate money to children's causes. Unfortunately this doesn't help you since you're going into IM. I would suggest looking for new or recently remodeled hospitals with lots of money!

I second that. Adult hospitals can be dumps compared to children's hospitals. And most children's hospitals are relatively new or have been recently updated (except for Hopkins, I hear). No caring parent would want to drop off their kid at a dark, spooky, dreary place (aka the county).
