Looking for anyone who has used this. Am currently (can't believe I'm gonna type this) facing being homeless.

My consulting role ended 5 months ago (after 4 extensions the contract simply expired; simply said, I was not fired). Thought I was moving to another city to work for old boss but ... Chinese company bought the client and my job went poof last week. For the few weeks that I was waiting for my formal start date, I'd essentially stopped looking. Locally, everyone thought I was moving away.

I've depleted everything. 401k, IRA, savings to stay afloat but will be reaching out for homeless prevention tomorrow...

My genetics professor has kindly let me sit in his classes with full access to the course. It keeps me focused on the hope, not the dread that is at home. And I study MCAT and class stuff at school where i-net is free.

While I have recruiters actively looking for me (and I really only need 1 week's pay to cover things), I don't see that happening in next two weeks.

So, FAP? Hard to get? Worth the effort? Qualifiers?

The paperwork was a bit annoying for me because it requires thorough tax info (including parental/spousal) that I didn't necessarily have access to at the time. However, the application does get processed quickly. IIRC, mine was approved within 1-2 days. I got a fair amount of AAMC MCAT prep (all of the question packs except Bio 2 and CARS 2, online version of the OG questions, hard copy of the OG, and the unscored sample test), a reduced MCAT registration fee ($115), and the fees for up to 15 primaries will be waived. From what I've read, most schools will also waive their secondary fee if you have FAP - some require you to contact them first tho.

Thank you on both posts. Seriously, thank you. Will look into it. I am just looking for MCAT registration fee reduction. My parents are in their 80s; can only imagine how that conversation will go if I need theirs.

Everything works out. Always. I find hope in the small things and that keeps me going. Every day, I look for the hope. Every day, I find it. Thank you again!

I did not use FAP, was going to, but too much of a hassle, but I just wanted to say that I hope everything works out in your favor!

Life always does. Thank you for the support! This sucks right now; but today a professor did something to give me the little slice of hope I needed. I'm an expert in rising from the ashes life sometimes doles out.

No problem! Make sure you don't register for the MCAT/buy some of the things I mentioned that are included with FAP prior to your application being approved. I don't think there's a way for AAMC to reimburse you if you do.

Feel free to PM me if you have any other questions/concerns. On a positive note, you'll have one helluva personal statement and story to talk about during interviews when they come

For 5 months, I've worried. Still managed to get an A- in genetics despite the job ending (it was consulting and after 4 extensions, the contract had been extended far longer than company policy allowed).

I knew at the time there was not much in savings. Paying for my elderly parents' rent, my rent, my son's and my tuition, and everything else along with 4 adults, there simply wasn't a lot left over. Two months at the most.

That would get me to the end of December maybe through Jan rent. And it did. I absorbed a 50% loss in stock portfolio (client was publicly held so I bought stock in it).

and then things got uglier. Really ugly.

Thankfully, I had great credit and could get some $$ to help with Feb and March rent but faced with no $$ for April rent had looked into homelessness prevention.

Above I said, I find hope where I can find it. Every day, I asked my friend how her gravely ill father was doing, visiting him in the CCU, helping the family.

Every day there was class, I went. The professor knowing my situation is allowing me carte blanche access to the course as a silent auditor. I do all the work that I would have if paying. I study, do the projects, and write the papers (he reads them).

Going to school kept me focused on the present and future, while still actively seeking a new job. At one point, I had applied to over 100 jobs. Don't believe the unemployment numbers, they are false and political.

Hope is where you find it. Hope is finding it in the worst of situations and trudging on. @familyaerospace is the top of the food chain (sadly) when it comes to picking oneself up by the bootstraps and carrying on.

I think I'm in 2nd place. Last week, out of the blue, the CEO of a former client PM'd me on LI, "I think we have something for you."

I start Weds. No FAP required. No homelessness. Just great thankfulness. And hope!

Thank you all for giving me tips on FAP and encouraging me :)

That's an awesome outcome and I'm glad you were able to pull through! Congrats on the new job:banana::soexcited:
