Well I just got an IV invite from a program across the country. I have the IV scheduled for Dec. 12th I have applied to about 6 other programs in that area that I have not heard anything from. Is it ok to call/email to see if the status of my application so that I possible can group any other IV's if granted around the same time some don't have to make 2 trips across the country. I was thinking of waiting till around thanksgiving to do it if I haven't heard by then.

Yes, it is acceptable.
What's the best way to phrase this. I'm a USIMG and don't want to sound to forward in doing it and possibly turning a program off. Should I wait a bit or do it now?
