Hello All!

I was wondering if someone could clear up the Fast Track to a cardiology fellowship. From what I have heard, you only have to do two years of IM then go straight to the cards fellowship. Being just in an MD program and not MD/Phd, is this possible for me? Also, what programs offer this track? Look forward to your responses!

Fast-tracking is not really fast.

Traditional path = 3 years IM + 3 years cards = 6
"Fast track" = 2 years IM + 2 years cards + 2 years fellowship = 6

This path is meant for MD/PhDs or MDs with significant research experience (i.e. publications). It is meant for those who want to do academic medicine.

The cardiology "fast track" is actually 7 years.

2 years IM + 2 years clinical cardiology + 3 years research (although the last year of research can be done at the level of junior faculty)

Check out the ABIM website if you're interested in more details: http://www.abim.org/cert/respath_pp.shtm
