I thought it would be fun to find out what everybody's favorite psych-related movies are. I mean movies featuring a psychologist, psychiatrist, psychoanalyst, therapist, mental hospital, Freudian dream sequence or whatever...

I'll go first. One of my faves is a real old one (1938): "Carefree" with Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers, featuring Fred as the analyst and Ginger as the recalcitrant patient. Lots of sub-Freudian wisecracks, surreal dream sequences, and (if my memory serves) Fred trying to hypnotise himself in the mirror... What could be better?! Oy vey! 😛

Your turn...

good will hunting, memento, and identity was alright as well

memento was such a weird movie.....had to watch it for a psych class...not a favorite but a good psychological thriller.

If we're going towards psychological disorders how about 50 First Dates? heehee or even Finding Nemo (Ellen Degeneres' fish)...Bourne Supremacy as well.

I just love seeing how they are representing various disorders.

One Flew Over the ****oo's Nest

(the book is soooo much better. It's by Ken Kesey.)

I just watched "The Three Faces of Eve" last night - definitely a classic.

I saw a pretty bad one about a month ago with Courtney Cox and David Arquette. Courtney's character impersonates her therapist after the therapist has a nervous breakdown. Kind of ironic, seeing as Monica was totally on the fringe of having OCD on Friends.

Beautiful Mind was a great movie and I also liked Matchstick Men.

Manic...Amazing movie, Don Cheadle is The Man!

It may have been a great movie, but it is a mostly inaccurate portrayal of John Nash's life and psychopathology:

Yeah, I like that one too! Joanne Woodward is great in it, really funny and sympathetic. I think it was made in the late 50s -- surprising, really, that it took another 20 years or so for the dissociative identity disorder/ multpersonality disorder bandwagon to really leave the station...

Did anyone see the British documentary about Aileen Wuornos, the woman "Monster" is based on? Gosh, what a compelling character she was. Often, very likeable. And what a childhood! Incredibly sad...

Those of you wanting to work with teenagers, see Thirteen.
Good Will Hunting annoyed me for bad portrayal of a psychologist at work.

Spellbound!!! Old movie, but I loved it!

Without specific order):
