Favorite class you ever took in college?

The most interesting course was my first intro bio lecture. It was taught significantly different. Rather than teaching the facts of Organismal biology we learned all the fundamental themes and had examples of them reiterated to us. For example, he'd tell us about trade-offs then give us a humorous example that related to us and he'd tell us about re biological studies and surprising data and how trade-offs were applicable. He emphasized concepts and really downplayed the smaller details saying that that was always something we could look up. I think this class really taught me the big picture which is important. Instead of giving me a bunch of facts, it gave me boxes so I could collect, organize, and thus understand those facts more easily. In addition, a major theme of the class was gaining an appreciation for the amount of stuff we don't know. However, I could see how some might complain if they're more detail oriented people. In addition, the class wouldn't help the average student taking bio I for the MCAT. Fortunately, I'd taken IB Biology and had taken multiple upper level biology courses before my own MCAT.

What's your guys' favorite class that you've ever taken in your careers as students? I've heard of some crazy ones offered:

Zombies in Popular Media

Tree Climbing

Fly Fishing

Canoeing

Physics for Future Presidents (Learning about drones and nuclear bombs I guess)

Have any of you taken any crazy classes?

Isn't that also a book... The author spoke at my school. Pretty cool.

chem 101, so many hot girls in that class

I Ochem was loaded too... No joke.

I'll be taking history of war next year so maybe that will be cool. Microecon was cool too. Oh, and i loved African American studies... Very informative.

You'll have to take my word on the pizza, but google image search for J Richard Gott and you'll see the blazer in all it's glory. He started the lecture by walking up to the podium, putting a briefcase inside, then leaving. He came back five minutes later wearing different clothes, and saying that when he figures out practical time travel he would have to come back to that moment and drop off his briefcase, because he had forgotten to bring his lecture notes that night. He then proceeded to find the briefcase his "future" self had left.

He sounds like a madman

An anthropology class on the environment--basically, we went around touring power plants, water treatment facilities, farms, factories, etc. and learning about how humanity impacts the environment. At least 75% of the class was field trips or videos.

I really liked my Mythology class....very interesting discussions were had 😛

Hayao Mizayaki freshmen seminar- BEST CLASS EVER. The entire class consisted of watching all of Miyazaki's films with a few readings and essays thrown in, and we even went on a mini field trip to our school's forest in an attempt to find our own Totoro tree. I met some of my best friends (I'm now a senior) in this class.

Another class I really wanted to take, but didn't have time for, was Shipwrecks and Pirates.

Since I believe OPs looking for unique classes....

Human Sexuality- Psych/neuro class about sex and abnormal sex
Election 2012- different professor each week (Poly Sci department, Envs, Anso, gender and women's studies department, econ, etc...)
Electron Microscopy- Basically a Biology photography class but with physiology mixed in. Got to take a pictures of a virus, bacteria, mitochondria, could actually SEE the sarcomeres of heart muscle, etc..

Field Ornithology!!! Summer 400-level bio class I took purely for funzies. Apart from OR shadowing it was the only thing I have ever been happy to get up before 6 for. 😍

Taking "The Holocaust" next semester, could be interesting.

So far my fave class is Calc II, who's jelly?

lol why no love for Calc III?

Mine: Biological Applications of Physical Chemistry

Probably imaging modalities signals and systems. I rly enjoyed learning the math and physics behind imaging. Radon transforms in particular were really cool. The most accomplished I've ever felt was when I managed to program an MRI image reconstruction. That was probably the hardest thing I've ever done in college

African traditional dance in Ghana. The hardest class and my lowest grade (they're polyrhythmic, I'm no-rhythmic). But it let me see a truly different culture. That part was fun.
