How much can we save from fee assistance. I'm not a cheapo just trying to save a few bucks, i'm just seriously broke and so is my family. I was sorta confused about what aadsas said about it. Do we only get the fee waived for 1 dental school designation (275$?) or do we also get the 1000$ initial aadsas fee waived too? I'd appreciate advice from people who have actually qualified for Fee Assistance.

Also, has anyone on here qualified for disadvantaged status? My family has never made more than 30k a year and I'm wondering if I might qualify. Again, I'd appreciate advice from anyone who has actually gone through the disadvantaged application.

Last important note: How much time does it take to get cleared for fee assistance and disadvantaged status? i want to send my application as soon as possible to be in the first batch.

thanks

They pay for the first dental school, you're responsible for the rest. It's almost worth it just to pay the money (I know how you feel though, everyone's money is short right now)...due to it being such a hassle. If I remember correctly, it holds your application up a long time before it can be processed. Basically, if you can afford it AT ALL...it will save your app 1 month+ in waiting time. I'm sure you already know how important it is to have your app in ASAP. Good luck!

ah man that sucks. one app is like 275$ only. i was hoping it was gonna waive the 1000$ fee.

You should get fee assistance if that's what your family's income is. Also, don't get upset when people get offended by your thoughtlessness.

I would apply the second the apps are available.
It honestly doesnt take that long to process (assuming you submit everything correctly, do it correctly since you can only submit once/cycle I believe.)

I submitted mine about mid-late june. Got approved in a fair amount of time, about 9 days. It would be waaaaay faster if you apply as soon as you can. I was lazy so I waited until late june. Here's my summary for my FAP Application and as you can see I submitted early July...many schools still commended me on an "early" app...in retrospect it wouldve been better to submit earlier though and not have to wait a bit longer for interview invites.

Comments: 06/28/10: The applicant has been approved for Fee Assistance. You will receive a fee waiver for the first dental school designation in the amount of $227.00

227$ is a nice amount of money to me- it pays for a flight for interviews! Or DAT or the supplement stuff.

Good luck!

I also did the fee waiver last cycle. I was afraid it would hold up my application as well. It didn't. I think it was processed in a week (faster than it took for my transcripts and LORs to arrive).

I was going to do the fee wavier last cycle. I decided not to do it due to the waiting time since I realized too late that it would really help out. So here is my advice

1. Draft out everything for your application and finish it a few days after it opens.
2. Make sure all the documents are prepared for the fee assistance program before the cycle even begins. Call them, they are really nice and helpful.
3. Apply for fee assistance right away!! If you do it right away, your application will not slow down in terms of processing.
4. Once that is done, you will start receiving secondaries for schools or fees. Every school comes with individual processing fees. Call each school and find out if you can get a fee waiver and what they need for the fee waiver. I had my financial aid office and pre-health advisor write me a letter of "financial need" which most schools accepted.

Good Luck! I did this last cycle and it worked well. Let me know if you have any questions.
