Anyone else waiting for their scores feel absolutely horrible about the exam they took? Whats the largest drop from NBME averages that anyone has heard?

If i can pull a 230+ i will instantly become religious

My nbmes were in the high 260s for an average

This just in, hardee17 quits his medical career to start his own cult.

I know you were disappointed man, but ever since the beginning you were saying you averaged 260+ and were aiming for 270. No one here actually believed you would score less than a 240-250, and even then it would take SOME miracle.

Leave the real worrying to us 😛 congrats regardless

Congrats buddy!

I believe promises were made regarding the naming of firstborns. I look forward to hearing about a kid named Operaman.

Thanks guys. Here's my thoughts:

KEEP IT SIMPLE

KEEP IT SIMPLE

KEEP IT SIMPLE

Seriously. The exam is essentially the basics, but in a reworded way. Stop studying any rare diseases that aren't in FA or UWORLD. Total waste. Stick to the basics. FA/USMLERX + UWORLD ONLY. No kaplan, no webpath, no anything. The exam is about the basics. Trust me when I say that the questions I missed were the absolute easiest items in the world. Not going to give any specifics obviously, but they would be things like "what layer of skin is found only in the hands/feet?" Super super easy junk like that. I spent so much time on complex 4th and 5th order stuff. I did learn a lot in my studying that might help me in the future, but that's yet to be seen.

Also, due to the important nature of this exam, I would advise stopping studying 2 full days prior to the exam. I usually cram until the last minute during school, and my grades are quite respectable--but I think my cramming here hurt me. Stay calm and confident. Treat every question with a blank slate.

For more specifics, you can look at my post history for my nbme averages and stuff. I think I way over studied. I dropped between 10-15 points from those into the 250s. Disappointing, yes. I simply got too nervous. Oh well, time for some step 2 fun.

I agree with everything you said.

The MOST important thing you can do for your Step 1 is SLEEP and relax 😛

Yeah, I literally was up for 40 hours when I began my Step 1. I was googling NBME 15 answers in the car ride over. I did brilliantly on UWSA and the NBME 15 (only tests I took, 250-265 on all of them) but I'm pretty sure I'm gonna end up with a 220 or worse due to BIOSTAT and FEMALES. So.. moral of the story: Sleep.

If I get >230 for some reason I will donate all the money in my wallet as well as my firstborn son.

I think the worst part about this exam is the wait!! 3-4 weeks is a long time.. I felt absolutely terrible after my exam and if i did get a horribly low score back then i would've been mentally prepared for it.. but by now i seem to have built up my hopes and just today i realised that i'm looking forward to a decent score.. I'm waiting for some miracle to happen!! I know now that if i do get a low score then i'll be crushed all over again!!! 🙁
