Up until this point, my home program has made me feel like they would love to take me. My letters (one coming from high up within the program) were all very strong, everyone has nothing but great things to say about working with me, the program director said he would advocate for me. However, I just found out that my home program has actually already started sending out interview invites already, and I haven't heard anything. I'm perplexed and worried. Has this happened to others? Not sure if I'm just being incredibly neurotic because this program is absolutely my top choice, or if I'm right to be worried...

I don't know what you're applying for, but I know in some specialties (like IM) a lot of programs don't do an "official" interview for their home students. I think you have to meet with them at some point in order for them to rank you, but you don't do the actual interview day. You might want to ask the program coordinator or maybe a resident there who also went to your medical school to see if your program does this.

That being said, I would think they would have told you all that if that is the case!

I wish that were the case! At least one of my classmates has already received a formal interview invitation from the program. when I spoke with the PD he told me that they would formally interview me...

I would put this under the category of excessively neurotic.

You have no idea how they are reviewing apps or where they are in the process. They could be going through them alphabetically for all you know!

You have not been "misled" - you are being impatient and more than a little bit ridiculous.

Chill and wait for your interview invite.

Unless you're grossly unqualified, most programs will interview their own students as a matter of courtesy no matter what. Are your scores/grades in the range that your home program accepts for residents? If so, chill and wait for your invitation.

Thanks everyone for the replies, yeah I'm being super neurotic 😳 I'm finding it kind of hard to keep a level head.

Hey I knew someone who didn't receive an invite to her home program when many people in her same class had. She was freaking out so asked the PD and it turned out to be an oversight on the programs part. Mistakes happen so go and ask the PD about your interview.
