fellow colleagues told me to beware of PI’s LOR

i was out with some friends from the lab i work in and one of them who has been there for a while told me that the PI will agree to write a LOR but sabotage people in them so the person applying doesn’t get in and will continue working in the lab for them. she gave me an example of a prior lab member. i dont know who to trust 🙁

i already had the PI write a letter and was going to send it to all schools bc i thought the letter would be strong. what should i do?

no, the PI most likely won't allow me to see it and i don't want to ask. my school also does not have a committee so my advisor can't look at my letters and tell me whether i should include them or not.

If you have control over distributing your letters through AMCAS, just don't designate it. You should have a very good idea based on your relationship with your PI.

Better to be safe. A bad LOR really sticks out.
