Hey guys, i was really confident going into this process, especially when i get secondaries from every school i applied to, i didnt realize everyone gets the secondaries. Initially i thought i would defn get into atleast 1 medical school, but after looking at other people statistics im starting to get worried im not competitive enough. Ive included the link to my MD application profile here, if you dont mind could you take a look and let me know what you think, and whether or not i should apply to some DO schools?

I think you will definitely get multiple acceptances just based off your numbers alone. I'm literally sweating bullets because of my MCAT score, which is why I am applying to D.O. but only to the two in my state. Also, know that if you decide to apply D.O. most of them will require a clinical letter of rec and some even specify from a D.O. In your position I wouldn't apply until the AACOMAS deadline (Dec-Jan?) because by then you should know approximately how many interview invites you have (or even a few acceptances) for the MD schools. Unless you have the money to spend then you can just submit your AACOMAS now for the security. Good luck!!

hey thanks alot for the feed back, i took a look at your numbers and they are very competitive i have no doubt youll get into a MD school. Good luck with the entire process, i have a feeling this is going to be a very long 4-5 months coming up.

Someone had a great sig line last year. It was something about the process being designed to empty your wallet and wrack your nerves.

Nothing's guaranteed, but you look like a decent candidate to me.

I'm going to bounce this thread on up to the What are My Chances subforum, because that's really what the question is.

Thank you for the positive words of encouragement. These are definitely stressful times. IF for whatever reason you don't get accepted this year, I would re-apply to MD schools and of course continue with the clinical volunteering during your year off. And perhaps consider doing a 1 yr master's (what I am doing right now) to boost the GPA's if that is the major issue. I really don't think you should go D.O. unless you prefer the philosophy because their programs are more expensive overall so you're really spending about the same money as doing the post-bacc work to make yourself more competitive for MD schools (at least that's how I'm justifying my 30k tuition this year, lol). But I'm pretty sure you'll get into at least a few schools from your list, so hopefully that won't even be an issue 🙂

on what? SDN?

Couple of things to know about SDN profiles:

1) Probably the top 10-15% of the pre-med applicant pool.
2) Some of these profiles are a bit ......overstated
3) Lots of these guys took a year or more off after school to get that extra stuff on the resume. So they're really committed.

In the larger scale of things you'll be just fine. Apply MD and DO.

Yeh man, SDN is defn very intimidating. Thank you all for your kind words, even small words of encouragement like this really boost a persons confidence so thank you all.

glad you're ok bhai. you'll definitely get in somewhere.

This thread is making me feel a bit better as well. 🙂 SDN is definitely intimidating to the more "average" applicant.

You got an invite in August, which is more than many others could hope for. Chin up.

Lukkie any chance your indian or pakistani? im only asking because you used the term Bhai in your post which in Urdu means brother. Im Pakistani by the way.

thats why i called you bhai, bhai

There are a lot of bhai's around here, as expected 😛.
