Hey All,

I'm filling out ERAS for Otolaryngology, and while most programs have a categorical position, some schools have something called "advanced..." such as the University of Washington, and UConn. What on earth does this mean? Does it mean that you have to already have done an internship? That would be odd b/c you'd think that UWash would be recruiting a new class of categoricals...

Thanks,

Marmot

im also filling out ERAS, since you asked ill tell you what we were told at our "ERAS orientation" thing.

advanced positions are positions that you start after PGY-1, so PGY-2 or higher. ENT, urology, optho, etc are all advanced positions because you need to do a prelim/transitional year before you start. some programs have integrated general surgery prelim spots designated and thus have it listed as categorial. others dont, so youd need to apply separately for a prelim spot at that same institution or anywhere else.

anyone else feel free to correct me on this.
