I am wondering if there is a general time by which most programs (sp Med/Peds) have sent out thier interview invites. I understand that there are conintuing invitations as applicants cancel, etc. But I am just trying to determine when I can start finalizing my schedule and buying flights.

I still have several programs that I am interested that I haven't heard back from and have left a few dates open on my schedule for the possibility of thier invitation. However if they don't send an invite I have a couple programs which I have not yet scheduled with.

Perhaps a resident, attending, someone involved in the process can give me an idea. I know that there is no definitive answer to this question however perhaps there is a general consensus that someone knows about.

Thanks so much for your time and insight.

It was actually right about this time that I got my final interview invitation and it ended up being to the program that I ranked #1 and matched into, in med-peds! There is also still lots of time for programs to have cancellations, especially once you get into late December and early January. You might consider contacting programs that you have not been rejected from sometime around the turn of the year to express continued interest should they have an interview slot open up in January.

I'm not sure what the prevailing thought on this is.. but I would schedule the interviews you have already gotten and when/if you get other interviews, cancel/reschedule from there.

Interview spots go quick.. and sometimes programs offer more interview invites than there are spots.

What's your reason for not scheduling interviews that you've already been offered? Agree with Mr. Bling that you should schedule them, and then cancel/reschedule if need be. I've had the date(s) I wanted get taken by hesitating less than a week.

I don't know what other people do but I scheduled my interviews as quickly as they came in. Some interviews where for the experience and to see what the program was about, but by the time my top several invites came I was more seasoned and ready to go for them. The earlier interviews taught me what to look for and what to appreciate in a program.

It is very true that invites go very quickly and it would totally stink to be left without an interview because they all were taken before you got back to them.
