Reapplicant, 514 MCAT (132/124/130/128), 3.73 GPA (3.79 Science) from Michigan-graduated in 2 years.

MI resident

Research experience: 2 years full time by the time I matriculate, 1.5 years of lab experience as an undergrad (total >3000 hours). No publications (maybe will write a manuscript as a first author end of summer/fall depending on how experiments go this summer), poster at ACS CERM.

applicable volunteer experience: 140 hours at a nursing home
~50 hours shadowing

Other volunteer: teaching high school science camp ~80 hours, volunteered at a church ~800 hours, mentor high school robotics ~300 hours, substitute at a local school district ~120 hours.

Hobbies: fishing, tennis (>1200 hours)

Good letters of recommendation (3 from well-known faculty-1 PI, and 2 from places I volunteered at)

Final school list:
Albany
Einstein
Central Michigan
Drexel
George Washington
Georgetown
Indiana
Michigan State
NE Ohio
OUWB
Penn State
St. Louis
Toledo
Tulane
Cincinnati
Michigan
Virginia Tech
Wayne State
Western Michigan

I also want to apply to MSTP but I fear my stats are not good enough. Can anyone recommend if there are any programs in my reach?

Thank you!!

You should be able to receive several interviews with your stats. Add schools such as:
Quinnipiac
New York Medical College
Temple
Jefferson
Rosalind Franklin
Loyola
Creighton
Tulane

3.74/33-34 usually leads to acceptance in MI. When it doesn't the interview is often a primary reason why. How did your last cycle go and did you get IIs? Did you apply while you were in your 2nd year of college?

If you struck out on MD schools last cycle that doesn't bode particularly great for potential MD/PhD odds. Average MD/PhD matriculant stats are 3.8/35. Average for MD/PhD applicants who don't get an acceptance is 3.7/32-33. You can get much more specific input on the MD/PhD forum.

Right now a bigger priority though is to figure out what went wrong last cycle and figure out ways to correct it as there is a good chance there is something identifiable as a problematic area

Thanks!

Last year was just a mess for me. I didn't fill my primary app out till the end of August, and secondaries until thanksgiving (missed quite a few). I was also suffering from major depression, so applications weren't great (essays sucked, forgot to put many extracurriculars, etc), and MCAT was 505 (131,122,129,125). I also had only 3 letters, only 1 from a faculty member whereas now, I have 3 letters from faculty only.

Should I explain my low CARS score on secondaries? I didn't really start speaking English until I was around 13, so only like 6 years.

Thanks!

The bolded is all very relevant information. Where all are you a reapplicant at? How many MCAT attempts have you had, just the two you listed?

Reapplicant at the following schools:
Einstein
Central Michigan
Michigan State
OUWB

Western Michigan

Didn't finish the secondary for Michigan.

This was my third attempt. My first attempt at MCAT was a 28 (10,6,12), second attempt 505, third 514.

Thanks again.
