So I got accepted to Univ. Maryland which is a top program, but cost an arm and a leg for out of state. If I waited a year and took some more prerequisites I could apply to a state school which would be nearly $30,000 cheaper, plus I could work and earn money for another year in the meantime!

I am anxious to start school because I have been out for already 3 years, but I don't know if the cost is worth it.

Any advice? Is being in a lot of debt really as terrible as it sounds??

What "state schools" are you talking about?

My opinion is that since you have already gotten in to Maryland, you know that your stats are good enough to "get you in" to PT school. Do what you can now to help yourself down the road as far as loans are concerned. If you realistically believe that by taking a year off and reapplying that you will be accepted to a cheaper school, then go for it. Throw the school rankings out the window and go with your gut feeling. After all, you better like it because you are going to be there for 3 years.

Well I would go to a California State school since that is where I am a resident. They have a lot of programs here. But I would probably work as a aide next year which I have been doing for 2 years now and ready to move on!

Yeah I dont blame you... and keep in mind that the pay as an Aide isnt that great. In my opinion, you wouldnt be "saving" enough money to make it worh your while to take yet another year off from school. It would be different if you could work for say $15-$20/hr full-time.

It is your decision but I would say try to enter a program this year if you think PT really is your one and only career choice. 🙂

P.S.- Did you interview at UCHSC?
