So the answer as per the ASDA released paper is glycogen 6 phosphatase but how is it possible ?
The answer should be glucokinase as that is also absent from the muscle.
Iam confused. Please clarify this.
Thanks soo much.

Find a picture of the cori cycle, it should show that glucose becomes lactate in muscle and then lactate goes to the liver in the form of AA's to become changed back to glucose which is then able to get back to muscle cells. Glucose in the muscle has the fate to be used, phosphorylated to G6P, F6P, F16P-->pyruvate for energy, or a small amount of it can be stored as glycogen.

In the muscle the glycogen is metabolized to G6P as the first step.. It would be pointless to use G6Pase in the muscle to make glucose because G6P(glucose 6 phosphate) can be enter straight into glycolysis in the muscle to make energy.

Hexo/glucokinase is used to convert any glucose that enters muscle cells to G6P as far as I understand.

Hope that helps.

Hello friends..I hope every one is doing well with there preparation..As i had mentioned in my previous post i was studying micro..i am still left with viruses..i had read it once but then need to revise it again..i am into endo physiology...Cheers and keep posting..We need to support each other and get thru this tough time...and forgot to mention the answer for the question mentioned aboveis definitely glucose 6 phosphatase...and the reasoning is also mentioned above...I too wud go with the same answer..

Dr Smiles12 thanks for the detailed explanation in simpler words....it makes sense now and i appreciate your your inputs on the same.
👍🙂

Welcome Vijji !
What r u studying these days and how is it coming along ? How was ur last exam experience ?

DrSmiles12 is right. I was reading in Lippincott(page 119) that Glucose 6-phosphatase is only present in gluconeogenic cells, which are the liver and in smaller extent, cortex of the kidneys. On the other hand, at page 96 they say that Glucokinase is present in liver parenchymal cells and islet cells of the pancreas. But I think that they consider glucose 6-phosphatase to be the right answer beacause of the word mammalian. In wiki I have found this: Glc 6-Pase is present in a wide variety of muscles across the animal kingdom, albeit at very low concentrations So it is present in some animals because mammalians are not only humans but all animals that have mammary glands. Anyway, we have to go with ASDA answers even if we are not completely satisfied.

hello ALL !
I take the initiative to have a thread for all those of us who plan to take the exam in the first half of 2010 . I'm myself taking the test on April 24th and its of paramount importance to stay motivated and put in our very best during this period of study. We all need to help each other, lest start the new year on a new note, and commit to ourselves to study and work real hard !
So lets all converge here and pool in our thoughts, our strategy , and other related stuff .

Am doing Anatomy right now and hope to be done within a week's time .

No second thought , its a difficult exam and we all badly need to stay in the same studying spree and maintain the flow of thoughts till we're done with exam.

Regards and best wishes to all.
Study well and study hard !

Hi this is sweety even am preparing for Nbde part 1 need company to share my thoughts n doubts. Can contact me at [email protected].
Sweety.

From what I recall G6Pase is only found in liver/kidney. G6P that is made in the muscle from glycogen and can go through glycolysis in muscle tissue to eventually make lactate which goes through the cori cycle to get broken down to AA's and then get taken up in the liver and processed back to glucose... Hope that makes sense.

thanks for the explanation , its does make sense to all of us now !

No problem buddy, hope the rest of your studying goes smooth!
DrSmiles...since u r from marquette...another question for u ...how may International ppl have they taken in this yr in the marquette dental school if u have any idea? I have been to Wisconsin a couple of times and really like marquette so since i never thought of applying for the simple reason that acceptance is on a space available basis...i was wondering if u cud also clear this doubt apart from the biochem questions that uve been solving for us all !! 🙂
Thanks and have a great weekend ahead!!!😎

It is still hard, I am reading from Lippincott because I find that it is a little more explicit in some chapters than Kaplan and sometimes, reading the same things in different words helps.
How is your study coming along? Everything going smooth?

Hey Wadent ,
you are welcome to join us .
I personally have no idea about board busters . but there may be a few , who already took the exam and you can certainly knock their door for, more reviews .
Here we all are going by the known standard set books , by saying this i certainly dont mean anything against the dental board busters, just that , i dunno of it .
Please do share your doubts and anything else , that u think worth mentioning
