Hey Guys, so I finished my 2nd year of Undergrad and I'm looking to apply to dental school either next year or after 4th year. This summer I am going to Europe to visit some relatives and work in a dental lab with my uncle (who's a dentist).

I feel like I should be studying something this summer, I just don't know what. Is there anything you guys recommend I should study this summer to help me prepare for 3rd year of University (I am a biology major?) Is it too early to start studying for DAT?? (I am going to take it next June/July).

Thank you in advance and all feedback is appreciated.

Go to europe and work in that dental lab. Have fun this summer. It's probably one of the last summers you have to do that.

well... if you've taken all your pre-dat classes.... you can get the test out of the way. That way when next summer comes around, you apply.

Thanks for the replies guys. Dentalworks, I haven't taken organic yet, but I am taking it next year and right after I finish it, I will study and take my DAT.

Also, I am wondering what courses I should take next year that will help me prepare for DAT dental school. So far from from science I have taken,
Bio1 (full year), Chem 1 (full year) Phys (1/2 year), Biochem 1 and 2, Genetics, Animals (bio 1/2 year course), Psych (1 year).

Also, do you think its too early to start studying for DAT and PAT section of the DAT (for RC I was thinking of reading science journal articles and maybe reading doing some books on reading comprehension and speed reading). These are the only 2 sections I think I could study ahead, because most of the science stuff I will probably forget by next summer.

Thanks in advance

Most of your upper division bio courses will help with the DAT bio section. So if you need to take classes like anatomy, microbio, physiology, they all help. I wouldn't bother studying for PAT/RC until next year. If you have time to burn and want to do something productive maybe review some general chem that will help you in Ochem and the DAT, like molecular orbital theory, oxidation/reduction, acid/base... Or perhaps you need some math review, like trig identities... that stuff can be on the dat.

I got a 23 and a 24 for RC both times I took it without studying anything and I'm not smart at all.

Thanks in advance

RC, I wouldn't really study too much for it. Forget all that reading comprehension and speed reading practice. It really isn't THAT bad. If you always did fairly well on verbal tests in school, got 4's on your AP tests, and read a fair amount of books/news articles, then you should score at least a 20 without much sweat.

Unless you get the infamous piano passage. But I never got it so I wouldn't know how difficult it was.

PAT is also like learning a game. It doesn't take that long to get good at it. If you do a couple practice tests for it every week when you're studying for the DAT, you'll be fine. It uses a different type of thinking and it's actually kind of fun lol

Like I said, I think you should just take a relaxing trip in Europe. YOURE IN EUROPE!! You'll have all of May/June to study for the DAT next year.
