Hi guys,
I've read several threads that mentioned that biochem is one of the few subjects where using FA will suffice. However, I am currently reading the Goljan Biochem book and it seems to have a lot more info than FA.
That being said, I was just hoping to get ur thoughts....should i be writing down/trying to memorize things that are in goljan but not in FA, or should i use goljan only as a means to learn things that are ALREADY in FA (in other words, not adding new info to the FA). I hope my question makes sense....

I personally didn't like FA for biochem. I recommend supplementing FA in the higher yield courses such as biochem, pharm, pathophys.

I'm using my class notes to supplement the FA, as I too think it was a little weak in certain pathways etc. I think being able to really integrate the pathology and some of the certain regulations of like glycolysis/gluconeogenesis will be critical, I just always have a tough time really appreciating the intricacy of some of those pathways, and FA doesn't do them justice. I've added a lot to FA in this section for sure.

It is not bad, but if you have the time I suggest supplementing it.

I did not use the Goljan book but I think it looks pretty good. I used Lippincott but it is huge and therefore not ideal.

FA is also particularly weak in Molecular and Cell Biology, which aren't really "Biochemistry" but are lumped into that section. There aren't a whole lot of options for this one since 1999 High Yield has become so expensive. The new edition is probably the best option.

I also think that reading another source for Vitamins is a good idea.

fa biochem doesnt explain things very well imo and i used kaplan biochem to go with fa

Depends on your knowledge level of biochem.

If its... .😀 great = FA,
🙂 good = RR
😳 okay = kaplan
🙁 bad = lippincott

If its average and you just want to blow the biochem section thru the roof on boards, then I'd add RR or kaplan to FA to put you way ahead of the curve.👍
