Man, interviews at mgh but rejected from penn and stanford? there IS randomness in this process. this sucks.
you see, i was taught all along that if you work hard, you will reach your goal. it sucks to know now how much luck/randomness actually plays into one's life.

ckent,
i also received bayview with a personalized comment...i was pretty impressed that they actually go through the trouble. I don't actually know much about the program - what have you heard? how close a relationship with hopkins do they have?
thanks!

assuming one gets interviews at cedars sinai and ucla harbor, which would you rank higher on your matchlist and WHY?

I have an interview with Cedar Sinai, my board score is "barely" above average, certainly <<<<<240. Still waiting on Harbor.....However, my grades are decent and I have research exp. + 1 publication etc...

i think harbor-ucla would probably get the nod over cedars.
this is what i've heard about these programs.
harbor-ucla: great clinical training, lots of resident autonomy, busy county hospital, majority of residents (greater than 90%) go on to do fellowships
cedars-sinai: less resident autonomy, private attendings, cushy program, hospital to the movie-stars, strong fellowships at cedars.
both sound like great programs, i probably would choose harbor. but i'm not sure with the news that harbor may be shutting down?

I guess since a majority of ppl here have step1 >240, no one cares about these non nationally acclaimed programs....

Majority greater than 240? I doubt that.
Also - I think you are going to be most unhappy if the only thing you look for in residency is name-value.
Step I number is important, but honestly anyting above average should get you an interview most places as long as you have the complete package - ie honored your IM rotation, strong letters, high class rank, etc.

Average = 215, and barely above means barely above but certainly <<<<<<<240

Class,
I don't know what's eating me, but I just don't have much enthusiasm for this process. Seems like after all the goals I have reached I should be more in control of my destiny. I hate wasting all the time and money on these interviews as a safety net. I am not at all confident in landing the spot of my choice, so feel I have to play the game and hope for the best.
Thanks for posting your choices. I am not going to Cleveland Clinic, Yale, Michigan, NYU, Mt. Sinai, and Beth Israel. I will decide about Columbia down the road. I hope I am not shooting myself in the foot.
