My school has experimented with this model and we've had a block or two of the whole "flipped classroom" thing. I don't really see why people make such a big deal about it. To me the pre-recorded lectures are functionally identical to the recorded classroom lectures and we basically just have more PBL sessions.
 
We had a science instructor at my undergrad school that tried this method for a couple of courses. It was an abyssmal waste of time. We had a big packet to cover before class, then a ppt with clicker questions for like 1/3 of the class then group work for 1/3, then going over said group work for 1/3...I learn best by lecture and studying on my own, this was useless. At mid semester the professor sent out a survey for the two classes...most of the people hated the flipped classroom thing and we reverted back to lecture thankfully.
 
First, identifying a core curriculum with concepts and lessons that can be taught through the kinds of short, focused video clips pioneered by the Khan Academy; then, changing static and poorly attended lectures into interactive sessions where students can practice that curriculum; and finally, letting students explore their passion -- from bioengineering to public health -- early on in their med school careers.

Lol what? Medical school is not supposed to be about exploring public health or bioengineering.
