...And no word from UF yet? Huh. Anyone hear of people getting at UF? I'm curious how they let people know too...phone call, e-mail, snail?

Don't know if this helps, but a friend of mine was on the waitlist last year. He received a phone call from the director of admissions telling him he was accepted. To be more specific, it was around noon during the mid-week, but I'm sure it fluctuates.

I am on the USF waitlist and received the email May 1st with good news, except saying that it might take them as long as June to let me know. Does it normally take them this long to let people on the top of their waitlist know? Thanks

I know of at least two people who have been pulled from the USF high tier waitlist. Their emails tho stated something to the effect of them being admitted by the end of May (not June).
If it helps I also withdrew my acceptance to USF yesterday.
Best of luck to those still waiting to hear.:luck:

Pulling for ya! 🙂

Aw. Thanks! 🙂 Thayman..you and I are in the same boat. I'm hoping that I won't have to wait until the end of June for a call as well. Then again..I just want to get the call. 😀 Good luck to you and the rest of those who are waiting! Also, thanks to all of you who've freed up a spot for us.

Yah I know. Waitlist movement is finally going to get going soon. YAY hope my friends on waitlists and those of you who are waiting to get in your top choices do soooooo.

Good luck to the following:
SillyMeMD
Medguy83
Pandulce
D-Bone
Axlx1

And to my friends who don't post on here.

Yeah, good luck to all you guys waiting, whether it be for a first-acceptance or an "upgrade" in choice of schools. Keep us posted.

All of you guys in the FL thread have been a source of great info and even comfort at times throughout this process. In case I fall off the face of the SDN Earth when I get started at FSU in a few days, just want to say good luck to you all, wherever you end up.

So you won't officially have a spot until June? I was top tier waitlisted and REL called me with an official offer on May 12.

I think everyone received the same e-mail if they were top-tier waitlisted - that they "may" hear something by the end of May. Some have heard as early as last week, though. I'm not quite sure how it works either; whether it's ranked or not.

I would think it is ranked since there were two different emails for top tier waitlist: one for the end of may and one for the end of june.
Some added info one of my classmates who got accepted thru the waitlist just withdrew his acceptance too. So another spot should open up.
Best of luck:luck:.

Thanks for the info! 🙂 I believe the e-mail for the end of June is for those on the higher end of the middle tier waitlist because that's where I was bumped to. I'm glad the waitlist has started moving fairly quickly. Here's to good news!!!:luck:

I believe it is ranked in the sense that after your interview, each member of the admissions committee gives you a score, and the total of this score is a number that sticks with you the rest of the way. Over a certain threshold and you're automatically accepted, below another one and you're rejected, anywhere in between determines your spot on the waitlist. I'm not sure how they establish the tiers of the list, but this is what I was told about how the general process works...Good luck

And to my friends who don't post on here.

Thank you Guju.

I have an official announcement to make.

I have removed myself from the UF waitlist and no offense but the Ben situation and the way that school presents itself disgusts me.

However, I am now only on one waitlist which is at the University of Pittsburgh and I will see what happens. However, with the scholarship I received from UM I believe a CANE I will DAMN BE.

Plus it is growing on me to the point of no return. as of now I have to SAY the "U" is my numero UNO choice.

Truth be told, I think UMiami and UF are pretty much equal even if one is slightly higher ranked then the other. I think you'll get a wonderful education there and the opportunities I've heard are absolutely amazing from anyone who has been accepted to UMiami that I've talked to and from those whom have interviewed there.

I like how you're still on the waitlist at UPitt...write them some LOI's. Isn't it a top 20 school?

Nope. I called USF today since it's been almost 3 weeks since the last update and supposedly they haven't seen that much movement compared to the last 2 years (which kinda worries me). I know it's still early though so we'll see.

Yeah they just sent out an email about it.

Its pretty lame that this is how its working out so far, but who knows what the next two months hold.

ya, I just got the email saying that things werent moving as fast (worries me alot too). Hopefully things will pick up.

when I called the USF office they seemed confident that they would still be seeing plenty of movement, just that it didnt happen all at once... hopefully this is true... this email has made me really stressed now 🙁

oh boy... that isn't good news.... FSU orientation starts May 27th, lol so i need people who are on USF's waiting list to accept so I can get in🙂 if you guys get accepted, all the FSU kids would realllly appreciate a quick turn around time in making the decision! (as opposed to the 2 week thing...)

This is typical. There will be spurts and slow-downs, but in the end the movement is often very similar year-to-year. This is a stressful process, but this will happen, just give it time.

Well that is somewhat settling🙂 thank you very much for the info REL.

Hey REL, I hope you don't mind me asking this but, given the length of time you were with USF, how far down the waiting list have you usually seen USF go?

hey all, ive been reading this thread for awhile, but have never posted... but everyone has certainly been very informative, and i appreciate all the info and advice... i finally got some good news this morning... by some miracle, im in to UF! 😀

just wanted to let anyone who is waiting to hear from UF that the Florida waitlist is moving, so hopefully everyone will hear good news soon, if you havent already...

i gave up my spot at FSU today and will be giving up my spot on the waitlist at USF, but it probably wont help much, since im middle tier...

but best of luck to everyone... my fingers are crossed for everyone still waiting!

i was listening to some news talk radio

and i heard people (public officials, some residents welp mostly from south florida) suggesting to separate north florida and south florida (making them individual states.)

what the ef.

Were they latinos?

That's stupid what they are suggesting. I think we need to cooperate not divide each other up. Maybe they want that so they can get extra votes for president that aren't dependent on the republican right of the rest of Fl. Who knows but it seems stupid.

I don't think it was all polarized politics but mostly, the SFL (lol) peeps (some mayor in Ft. Lauderdale) say that they are heavily affected by the housing economy crisis more than NFL people. Money problems, funding funding funding. But hey, I think SFL, is more funded than NFL. (eh not sure but correct me if I'm wrong).

Yeah, let's not separate the sunshine state! 🙂

sadly, many people like it though.

greater football rivalries as they suggest and all that

and this too:

some guy said:
Living in North Florida, I fully support this movement. Draw the line just north of the Everglades and we are a GOP state for the foreseeable future.

....

IDK why some jacksonville writer doesn't like orlando (central fl) and disney be a part of north florida. edit: i know now... lower crime rates.

if they draw the lines, UF and FSU is ours. what about UCF? lol

I don't think they will ever separate the state lines. People are just being ******ed for political purposes. I think breaking apart fl. would be economically bad for Fl. considering the importance of tourism and other factors.

Hey REL, I hope you don't mind me asking this but, given the length of time you were with USF, how far down the waiting list have you usually seen USF go?

Difficult to answer with accuracy, especially since things have no doubt changed to some degree with the admissions process there. In the past we probably got roughly ~2/3 through about a ~150 person wait list. Of the upper 2/3, some withdrew without offers (~40) because they got an offer they preferred, the rest accepted and matriculated (~60). This is typical since most of the Florida schools interview a lot of the same students so that when an offer comes that puts them in a more advantageous situation they would make the change in acceptances. Mostly the situations are moving back "home" to familiar territory, possible scholarship offers, or to an area where a more personal support-system was available.

well hopefully this year remains true to the usual and they make it a good deal through their waitlist. let the movement get going🙂

I can say with a pretty good certainty that the UM (main campus) waitlist has moved. 🙂 I can't say it's moving, technically, because I don't know how far past me it went, if at all......buuuuut, it's still early, hang in there. And FWIW, I went on the list April24. Good luck!

I went into the UFCOM Admissions Office yesterday to get the scoop on the c/o 2012. Robyn told me that there should be more acceptances going out this week. She also said that the class is not filled yet and to have patience. Offers will continue going out well into summer....

I grew up in California, and they bantered around for years about splitting CA up into North and South, or North/South/Central California. It never happened for decades on end. I seriously doubt it would happen in Florida either. There is no incentive to split the state up that is that strong, and in California it was all over a very important resource, Water.

Was wondering if anyone could answer a question a few of us on the FSU wait list are wondering... since the start date is so early compared to the other Florida schools, does USF (and UF and UM) take this into consideration and try fill more spots this week, since if they don't potential students will get locked in once they start at FSU? I am hoping that is the case... but it is probably wishful thinking... I was told that FSU takes about 90% of the people they interview... but I am starting to wonder if I am in the unlucky 10% since the acceptance offers end Friday-ish. Congrats to those who have had good news🙂 Still hoping!

There are prob. people who will drop at the last min. like the first day of orientation. You are not locked in until you have attended the first day of orientation.

They can't split the state, the flag would look terrible with 51 stars.

We even had someone in my class that was called about a week into our "orientation" because one student decided medical school wasn't for them. They were in California moving into an apartment, getting ready to start a masters program when they got the call from USF. They drove back to FL fast, I imagine!

i think the whole north/south florida thing is based on south florida earning much more revenue from tourism than the north, and yet the school systems in north florida are much better funded than the ones in the south. personally, working in south florida, many of the schools in and around miami do suffer from a lack of funding. but we all kno this will never happen, they had a similar discussion abt doing this in virginia, by splitting it into south and north VA.

i'm on the waitlist at usf too, i got a similar e-mail from everyone abt how the movement was a little slower than expected... (i'm supposed to be hearing back during the first week of june, instead of may 15th), but it is settling to hear that it could be just a little bump in the usual trend. however, i kno it's probly the last thing everyone wants to hear, everyone who is on the waitlist there, should prepare themselves for the worst and have a backup plan. get in ur mind that the worst possible scenario could occur, so in case there is bad news u pick urself up as quickly as possible and get ready to try again or go somewhere else.
