It seems like interview days can be kind of touch to botch. My 5 interviews so far have involved lots of talk as to why they are better. I felt like I was getting sold a used car much of the time. I kind of wished they just let us do the interview and then wander around with students or sit in for half of a day rather than some little cursory tour through the building.
Thanks for the congrats by the way. 😉
I find it funny to see how we all have different perceptions of the schools. I never toured UF but I talked to a few med students there and they all seemed miserable and very cut throat premed-ish. It was a huge turnoff for me and I didn't even send an application. I know multiple other people that had the same vibe and while they got accepted, they chose other schools in florida over it. It all just depends on your day though. Its hard to find a med student that is happy 24/7, especially nearing exam times.
same here::whines:: I want interviews from Florida public schools. 🙁
Hi guys,
I got an email from USF to "please call at your earliest convenience regarding your application" from Trista Moenning. I called them but she's at lunch...is this an interview invite??? please say soooo!
DOM
The orthopedic surgeon that I shadowed here in Tampa also went to Mount Sinai and she went to college in Minnesota. She told me that it was a change that she wanted, see the big city etc... So it worked well for her, so I am sure if it comes it it you can do it
Pianola.... I didnt say that USF and UCF are bad school, they are all high quality school, i would die to go one of them. I know a people that choose USF over John Hopkins and Columbia because USF gave a full ride scholarship. But what I meant was that when the times comes those are going to be some tough decisions
i was complete on 9/26..kinda late i know.
Edit: yep, just called 'em, and its an interview!!

PS. Assuming I'm lucky enough to get accepted somewhere, do any of you know if Florida schools allow you to go back for a 'second look'? I don't want to feel like I missed anything.
Well, as of today, I've completed all of my in-state interviews. Now it's just a waiting/hoping game.
to everyone waiting for both interviews and decisions. All of the interviews across the board were really low-stress, I found.

Nice job! Which FL schools did you apply to? Did you interview at UCF?
USF, UM, UF, and UCF. Yes I interviewed at UCF. It was a lovely interview day and the other interviewees were very positive, encouraging people -- a good mix of in-state and out-of-state. A really nice, intelligent group of people. I enjoyed the experience very much.
I'm not going to be posting any school comparisons in this thread-- I sincerely enjoyed all of my interview days in Florida for different reasons.
did u by any chance interview at UCF on Oct 3rd? How great is REL, he was very informative, and Celebration hospital was just amazing.
No, I was supposed to interview on the 3rd, but I couldn't make it 🙁 I interviewed yesterday.
Yes, REL is definitely very helpful; knows the process inside and out. He seems to have a very deep appreciation for the kind of awkward situation we're in as hopeful applicants. I really felt that he was able to lighten the mood considerably 🙂.
I'm still thinkin about how good the lunch was lol, did he by any chance say when they would start letting people know about acceptances???
Yes; he will call us in person to let us know whether we are accepted, waitlisted, or rejected on October 31st. So no need to panic if you don't hear anything on the 15th/16th (because you won't hear anything then).
😀.
ok good, i just needed some confirmation for what he told my interview group. thanks for the info and hopefully both of us will be hearing good news on Halloween 😀
Not everyone can boast that, so that's a truly fortunate thing.
only a few more days! hopefully good news for all =)
Do you by any chance lead tours for interviewees? One of the second years leading my tour at UF mentioned SDN....😳
grats gatorguy! Good luck to all my fellow floridians, I hope there's good news today!
I'm in RSA! I'm in to UF!!! W00t. I just love schools that love me back! UF says they have full confidence that I can be a doctor!! 😍
Sweet!
Good luck -- you'll hear soon and you'll hear good news, I'm sure of it!
still waiting on the call from USF- they said they'd call either way, so I dunno.
You'll get in, RSA. I know it. They said they would be accepting many, many more people in upcoming months.
.
Me, too...they said they'd be done calling by noon, I thought. I hope that doesn't mean they're headed to waitlist people right about now...😳
I was actually called from a cell phone while they were on the road recruiting so they sounded very busy. I'd assume because of this they aren't going to be as quick as usual calling people, but they made it clear that calling is a number one priority to them so sit tight guys. I'm sure the good news will come rolling in very soon 🙂
I'm sure USF will send 😍 you way to as well UCF hopefully! 😀
Congrats on UF!
I was really hoping that I would hear from FSU today. I guess tomorrow is a new day -.
My advice to you is to do more stuff and keep updating them. UF Loves people who update them constantly with new stuff.
When the c/o 2011 people were applying, one of my 3 best friends was applying. She's now an M2 at UF. Anyhow, another friend who was also applying at that time was told at her interview to update them with new volunteer activities and the works if she gets on hold. So I passed this info along to the one that is an M2 at UF now. She did that and constantly updated themwith new volunteer activities and new grades. Eventually she was waitlisted and then accepted in June.
Last year, a grad school friend constantly updated them with new grades updates and things like that as well. She also ultimately got waitlisted and then in during May or June time.
I really believe what that interviewer told my friend years ago because the people I've seen do this do get in. If UF is one of your top choices I'd try to do such.
When did you interview? I expect to hear something (good or bad) before the end of the week. When I interviewed Dana said that our decisions would come towards the end of this week and made no reference to the Oct 15th date. I know they handed out acceptances before the 15th so I don't think that today was any sort of magic day for them like it was for some other schools. Good luck, I hope you get good news soon!
