I only see the 2006 and later results.
2007 results here. Have at it.

All in all, it was a good match. Those who wanted to leave got into good programs, and just about everyone who applied for the uber-competitive fields got in. To my knowledge, only one person didn't successfully match into one of those fields.

Oh, and I got my first choice. Yay.

Thanks Badenov. When do you think waitlist movement will start.

From Agnes:

Interviews for Miami campus ends next friday, Boca 2 weeks later.
She told me earliest end of April.

Crap...gotta get on that letter...aaaaaaaaaaah!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Freaking out.

anybody have the information for FSU's match day??

As soon as FSU posts its Match results, I'll create another convenient table like I did last year to compare all of the Florida schools. That way, another round of applicants can draw false conclusions about the teaching styles of each of the universities.

Interviews end then or those are the last dates that invites go out?

huh?

I was wondering if anybody could elaborate on USF's second look weekend. Thanks!!! 🙂 Congrats to all of you who have gotten accepted!

Boris, major props for dealing with OCR and tweaking the text. Looks like you and your classmates had a good match. Also, congrats on getting your first choice!

LOL, he is stealthfully sarcastic...it says so above his avatar. Seriously though, I believe that Deuist is drawing attention to the fact that people look at match lists and assume that it means they have better chances if they go to a certain Florida school. All in all, we're mostly around the same ranking, it's all just about what you want to see or where you want to be. Also, regardless of what a match list looks like, it doesn't have THAT much to do with the teaching. The match is very individual, because of your performance on certain rotations being very individual and your USMLE score being very individual and so on and so forth. Taking the USMLE score as an example; regardless of a school's teaching style, you may or may not be able to master the material. Even if you do, then you have to still tailor that knowledge and application to a standardized test known as the USMLE, so there are a lot of factors in how you will do on that test and whatever score you end up with will be one of SEVERAL factors affecting how you match. So really...do well at any of the Florida schools and you will most probably match where you want 😉

got the call from USF just now, mid-tier waitlist. Needlessness to say I'm pretty depressed/mad/confused. I can't help but wonder if I just wasted my time studing ridiculous hours in the library for that "A" on a test or the extra few points on the MCAT 🙁

Did he say if it was an area that usually gets called off?

called off?

I think that means taken of the waitlist.

In general, the different tiers are based upon past experiences at USF...

High Tier = people in this group have usually gotten off the waitlist at some point before the school year begins.
Mid Tier = people in this group have sometimes gotten in and sometimes not gotten in before the school year beings.
Low Tier = low chance of getting into USF this year before the school year begins.

does anyone know if REL calls in rejections? I mean if he doesn't than everyone gets somekind of waitlist, which means the waitlist position does mean much. But if does call in rejections I would feel better about being waitlisted.

REL calls everyone who has interviewed, no matter the result. That is one of the many reasons why USF is so awesome!

Somone at their from their office of admissions (two separate times) said that they invite for interviews through the end of marh... So I hope that person was right and not Agnes

Im just curious because I find out next wednesday. I really want to get a spot that usually gets called off.

You and me both. I find out next Wednesday as well. :scared: Good luck!!! :luck::luck::luck:

my point was, does REL call flatout rejections as well as waitlists/acceptances?

I thought they finish interviewing at the end of this month, so I'm guessing that they may be done sending invites. REL if you are out there please come and share some more official info on the topic.

USF will complete interview invitations by the end of this week. All applicants will know by the end of this week whether they will be interviewed here this year.

my point was, does REL call flatout rejections as well as waitlists/acceptances?

I believe he does. At the interview he was saying that he will call everyone no matter what. USF does reject some people, but it is a small amount. The majority of people are placed on the waitlist as stated above by LTD. REL should have been able to give you some hint as to what to expect (ie you might have a chance at being accepted). I am sorry Jack and I wish you all the luck!

The adcom office or committee???

REL could probably expand but my understanding is that there are both voting and non voting members of the adcom and then there are some people in the admissions office that are staff.

The voting members I think consist of both PhD's and MDs. I don't know if 4th year students get to vote but I know 4th year students can participate in the adcom as interviewers.

I'm sure there are some MD/PhDs too. There might also be some MPHs at USF's committee. I know Mrs. Jackson of the Office of Academic Enrichment who has roles in the admissions office is an MPH.

Mr. Larkin is neither a PhD or MD but he's the admissions director so he's on the adcom too as a nonvoting member. Don't really know much beyond that but I think its mostly faculty who are on the voting part of the committee and the nonvoting part includes students and other people.

It definitely is not just random office people only.

REL please expand if you can.

I'm not sure of the question. Was the question "Who comprises an admissions committee?" or "Who is "ADCOM" on the SDN thread?"

I cannot answer the second question, but based on the answers it appears that ADCOM is a student member of an admissions committee; they have rebuffed any attempts to confirm their credentials. The answer to the first question varies from program to program, but in most cases Admissions Committee members are comprised of MD and PhD faculty of that program. Several programs also include varying mixtures of medical students on the committee.

Don't you have to do IM before Radiology? I'm not exactly sure how the match works in that case, but some people directly go into radiology from med school???

deuist, where did you find FSU's 2007 match results...I can't seem to find them. can u post a link? thanks

I think they were asking who comprises an adcom not who is adcomm or adcom2.

I.e. who is on USF adcom? Not in terms of names of actual people. But on the voting and non voting committee what kind of people does it comprise of? Are the voting part of it all faculty and physicians or also some students? Who comprises the non voting portion? I think that was the question.

my point was, does REL call flatout rejections as well as waitlists/acceptances?

People who interview at USF rarely get a flat out rejection unless they've truly done something to warrant a flat out rejection. Instead they'll put most interviewees on some part of the waitlist. If it is someone that wouldn't otherwise have been accepted but not necessarily flat out rejected they'll get low tier waitlist. Or so I'd assume. He'd call everyone who interviews regardless of status.

No. You must do a preliminary year before doing radiology. The preliminary year can be in any field---internal medicine, surgery, and peds are the most common. You do not, however, complete a full residency before going into radiology. My list does not include preliminary or transitional years.

Has anyone else besides me officially decided on FSU for med school? If so are u going to the orientation on April 5th?

A link for UF's match results for the c/o 2007:

http://medinfo.ufl.edu/students/match2007nonames.pdf

Any surgical (i.e. vascular, cardiothoracic, surg onc) or medical specialty (i.e. pulmonology, GI, heme/onc. cardiology) will, respectively, require a full gen surg or internal medicine before the specialty fellowship. Thats why you wont see those types of fields in a match list.

Fields that arent truly surgical or medical (anesthesia, rads, rad onc, derm, optho, or PM&R) will require a single surg, med, or transitional year prior to starting those residencies. Med and surg years are referred to as preliminary or prelim years, as you are specializing in something else. The year is similar to what you would do as a first year resident in general surgery or internal medicine.

ENT and Urology require a prelim surg year, as these are surgically-based specialties. The bulk of their training, however, is done during respective residencies in those fields. Optho is "surgical" as well but Ive seen people do both med and surg internships.

Neurology generally will require a prelim med year, although some programs do a transitional year I believe.

Psych has their own internship (very few hard medicine months i believe, maybe a couple of months at most).
OB/GYN has their own internship.

Path has NO internship 🙂

I'll be there, but it is to hopefully get a research gig and kiss ass a bit. Maybe I'll see you around. 🙂

Congrats to CubanDoc for getting into FSU!

CubanDoc, question: Were you on hold recently and then got the call yesterday about being moved from post-interview hold to acceptance?😕

I was just going to post it here.
I was placed on hold last week and they called me yesterday with the great news.

I hope you get called up as well LifetimeDoc.

there is another person from the day of my interview that got accepted the same way.

I guess that last week they couldn't make a decision with all the crazyness of the match and we were put temporarily on the hold status.

Me- but I'm pretty sure orientation is April 6th, not 5th. And, unfortunately, I'll have to miss part of it for an exam.

Anyone going to FSUs open house this weekend?

I am starting to get pretty nervous with the april/may around the corner. Has anyone ever known anyone who interviewed at all the FL schools, only to come away with 0 acceptances?

I actually have not heard of that happening to anyone yet. Perhaps in some other states, but not in Florida. Besides, even if it has happened to someone, they aren't you and everyone's situation is different. This is the hard part - the waiting game - but you just have to be patient.

My fellow Floridians,
wish me luck,
I have my last scheduled interview tomorrow at UF
Thank you very much to all of you.

Don't worry too much.
There is like a 67% chance of getting in any of the Florida schools if you were interviewed.
Good Luck :luck: :luck: :luck:
You'll be fine.

Is there a USF second look? If so, could someone please provide the details. I'd greatly appreciate it.

So do FL schools generally stop interviewing at the end of March?

I know USF stopped sending invites for interview last Friday and UF has the last interview next week Friday.
I don't know about the others
