First, Step 2 scores are SIGNIFICANTLY higher than Step 1 scores on average nationwide.

That's definitely not true. The national mean for step 2 is roughly the same as the national mean for step 1, every year. (1, 2)

The scores on SDN are a total aberration.

It's back up to five now. Last year, we had trouble keeping it at five because certain SDNers from a certain other state kept coming over and voting our thread down.

He definitely won't. They pretty much keep that under lock and key over there. Agnes told me she can't tell me my rank. Makes things worse. 🙁

Honestly I don't know. Hinkley did hint on our interview day that the waiting list rank is constantly moving for whatever reason. Also he mentioned that if he mentions lets say you are rank #5, and they only let in 4... etc. or something like that. I don't know, some ADCOMMs work mysteriously.

Or maybe the waitlist isnt as straight forward, perhaps if a female drops a spot, it has to be replaced by a female, regardless of the best statistical person, or if a person from florida drops, it has to be replaced by a person from florida regardless if someone from lets say idaho is better, i dont know, but i am pretty curious

Perhaps part of it has to do with the fact that even if you interview say on 1/4 and someone interviews on say 3/14, the person who interviewed later might still be put in a point higher then the person who interviewed earlier even if the person who interviewed earlier is high tier.

Therefore, there could still be minor fluctuations in the waitlist so that one can't definitely say you are at the top.

My friend, when she interviewed at one of the Fl. schools, was the very first person on the waitlist. However, she was warned that while she'd remain in the top part of the waitlist there was a possibility that she might not be the very first person if someone from a later interview batch got above her. So there are no guarantees of the exact spot until after interviews are over. For schools like Miami and now USF, schools stopped interviewing this month. So perhaps they are finalizing the details.

He said that if they told someone they were ranked number 6, then he would be afraid they would make plans to come to Miami. However, if for some reason they didn't pull 6 people off the list, that person would be very angry.

Yeah despite the trends one shouldn't make plans until its a confirmed deal because you never know what may happen.

For multiple acceptances after May 15:
I think I remember REL saying at my interview 2 weeks (but I am not entirely positive about this).

I recall last year it being roughly 2 weeks. So you might be right. Several of the applicants in last year's cycle kept mentioning about 2 weeks to decide though a few got extensions by requesting for it in some extrenuating circumstances.

Last year we really did get into a competition with the NC people; they were voting down our thread, and we were voting down theirs. (Luckily, there were more Floridians than Carolinians. 😉 ) But I don't know why people are voting down the thread this year.

Write specifics of what you like about UM, why you're a perfect match for it and vice-versa. Also, write a few specifics of what you can offer to your class.

Good luck. It's definitely better to be accepted and still waiting to hear from other schools than it is to be on waitlists and not accepted anywhere yet. But it still sucks to have to wait period. 👎

I'm doing ok. I did my taxes today (always frustrating!), and I'm kind of stressed with school. We're getting close to the end of the year. I can't believe I'm almost finished with my first year of med school already. When I first joined SDN, I had just taken the MCAT. That was almost three years ago. This time next year, I'll be getting ready to take the Boards.... 😱

Good. It's ok to be sad, but just don't sit at home and mope. You'll meet tons of great new people in a few months when you start school. Just be careful about getting involved with a classmate. 😉

People definitely do hook up in med school. But especially if you're in a super small class like at FAU, you really don't want that kind of drama. On the other hand, there are lots of upperclassmen. 😍 You're a lucky girl. In my case, I'm not only too old for the upperclassmen, I'm even too old for the residents. 😛

Heh, I'm even older than some of the youngest faculty. 😳 Not the young MDs; they're about the same age as me or a few years older (mid thirties). But the PhDs, some of them are younger. 😛
