Hey guys, I'm not sure if this has already been asked, but does the UM status page only apply to those who have received an interview invite? i emailed dr hinkley about 2 weeks ago,and he said my file was complete. however the status page says i'm not. and although he said i was complete, i never received an email about my file being sent for review? should i give them a call or am i just being paranoid?

Frany, if Hinkley said you are complete, then you are - the same thing happened to me. Now, if your status page does not change, say, two weeks from now, then you can confirm to be on the safe side.
Thanks!! 😀
Just wanted to remind those of you accepted to UMiami about something.........
Now that you've been accepted, I'd do what I can to find out about scholarships that they offer!!!!!!!
My friend who is there now, has a 50% scholarship and that made a huge difference along with other factors, in determining whether he'd rather go there vs. somewhere else because finances do come into play in the ultimate decision.
Ok, just thought I'd throw that in there.
👍 👍 👍 👍 👍
To all my fellow floridians. We rule, don't we!!!!!!

I received an email from one of my interviewers, but no phone call. That was on Tuesday, and I got the official letter today in the mail.
I'm just wondering if students who get accepted get a (call or email) then get the acceptance and the rest of us with no (call of email) get the hold letter.BigMAC said:I received an email from one of my interviewers, but no phone call. I think that would be a pretty safe assumption to make
Same here, they actually responded and were really nice about it.unfrozencaveman said:No, I'm withdrawing from Tulane. You?
Wouldn't it be great if we were all classmates next year? You guys all seem like decent human beings... 😉

Very safe...just got the "hold" letter! this sucks
DrMike24 said:ya, but seriously, at this point, we are not in a bad position. Its still really early. I think that a large part of people who attend uf med school got in off the waitlist. Does anyone know if that is correct?
Yeah, I heard about that during the interview. Robin said in recent years many of the accepted students end up not attending UF.
I got a "hold" letter too 😛
Hang in there folks!
I got into USF though. So I'm overall happy 😀

Dr. Mike,
I have two friends who were going through the process last year, and who got on hold at first at UF.
One of them, got on hold at UF around this time, but then ended up getting off of hold and in during December break. I believe someone mentioned that they tend to give more acceptances out at that time of the year.
Another friend was an August MCATer, so she didn't interview til later, but she got on hold, then on alternate list, and then off alternate list and into the medical school in late spring.
Both are now MS I's there.
UF tends to put a lot of people on hold, just so they can look at all the files again when they do decide who they want. That way if they find someone they want more, then they would want someone from the early interviewees, they have the liberty of picking the later candidate.
However, I think your shot is still good, and that you might have a good chance of hearing back in December. But who's to say. Its tough, but hang in there cuz I'm sure you'll be doing real well. 😀

I'd agree with gujudoc.... the "wall of acceptance" board in Robyn's office was never really full of accepted candidates until feb or march so I wouldn't sweat it this early in the game. People on the board not only were they accepted to UF, but planned to matriculate there also. People who got into UF early would also accept invitations elsewhere, allowing people on the alternate list the chance to be added to the board much later in the spring.

It's probably an acceptance - Congrats!
I still have yet to hear from them. Maybe next week...
Ya, go to the post office on monday! Let us know what it is! Hopefully an acceptance 🙂 (hopefully not a florida resident thing...everytime i get a letter at home my mom gets all excited and calls me to open it and its always a florida resident thing 😀 ) its probably an acceptance, I wouldnt think that they would have you sign for anythign less. but who knows, crazier things have happened.
BTW, have any of you floridians applied to emory and received an interview, or know someone who has??

Hey Mike, I did and so did another one of my friends (the same one who also hasn't heard anything yet from UF). He had his interview a couple weeks ago and mine is in a couple weeks.DrMike24 said:Ya, go to the post office on monday! Let us know what it is! Hmmmm.... I just sent them an update letter... I would really like an interview there so we'll see
I don't think you have anything to worry about at all yet, it's still really early. but good luck!DrMike24 said:Hmmmm.... I just sent them an update letter... I would really like an interview there so we'll see
I was wondering if those who were accepted to UF would say what their stats were. I recently went up significantly with my new august mcat so i updated my app. I am a student at UF and this is my #1 choice. I also am waiting to hear from FSU. Had an interview a month ago and still havent heard...getting a little anxious.

My stats won't be useful to you, but you might trying going to mdapplicants and doing a search for people accepted to UF COM for 2006. Make sure to uncheck the box that says "completed apps only," or you won't get any results.

Congrats on the score improvement! 😀
I was wondering how you were able to improve your score: Did you study differently or more? Did you take a test prep program the second time and not the first?
Have you already interviewed at UF? If so, the higher test score would bring your application up for review again and may make a difference - depending on how your interview went and how the committee liked your overall application. If I were you, I would email or call Robyn and explain your situation and ask her advice. SHe is really nice and helpful and responds quickly!
You could check MDapplicants and also search for those who were accepted for the 2005 year to get an idea...but remember what other people have said - those numbers tend to be skewed, b/c for some reason, not sure why, but a large percentage of the people who post on MDapplicants have MCATs of 34 or above...
Good Luck!

I got the hell out of dodge, but I just talked to a friend in Miami and she said the winds are really pretty nasty. They've lost power, but not cell service apparently.
Its raining outside right now, but I haven't been outside nor plan on risking it today. So I wouldn't know how bad the winds are.
The rain started coming in last night and has been continual through the night and this morning. Luckily I'm in Tampa, which is only getting some residual side effects of the hurricane and not in the direct pathway of the hurricane.

The only good things are that it's moving quickly....and we still have power. 😛 There will be a new NOAA advisory at 11 AM. Last one (9AM) put the eye at 45 miles SW of West Palm Beach. Hope everyone stays safe.
Its hard to believe that it moved across the state as a cat2. I think that a lot of east coasters were not expecting that. My buddys parents in ft laud said that there is debris everywhere, power out everywhere. Hope everybody is safe! Anyone had any interviews canceled? I know usf interviews on monday...
Yeah- I really wasnt' concerned about my place until just now- my friend said South Beach got rocked by this thing- cars flipped over and everything. I left town without doing too much- just kind of closed up shop, but I left my car outside. I'm dreading a report back now.
chemwiz14 said:Hey Does anyone know how long it takes for august mcat takers who are complete to hear from florida schools?????
At USF, the earliest interviews for such a group I believe are December or January.
REL,
A minor request. But would you be able to elaborate on this one? Or let me know if my answer is right?? I think I recall you saying such in the past, but could be wrong, so would prefer your official answer.
Thanks,
guju 😀 😀

has anyone heard from Arsenic810 aka bratboy aka A-man??????/ 😀 😀
More seriously though, I hope he's ok, along with everyone else in Umiami that I know.
My bro lives in Miami, but he was out of dodge this weekend, cuz he was hanging out with my brother and parents this weekend.

I hope so too. The winds from this thing (in Boston!!!!) have me up in the middle of the night worried about what's going on in Miami. I have a flight home tomorrow night, so hopefully I'll manage to get down there and see if there are any fish in my living room, and if my car is in Davy Jones' locker.
Sounds like everyone is physically ok though, which is all that matters.
I also hope nothing happened to the gym at Miller (the black painted mirrored room they show on the tour). I'm not going next year if I can't bare knuckle box my classmates in there.
UMiami MS1 here. I'm in Dominion Tower (in the UM/JMH Medical complex). Jackson's Power Grid just came back on... however the rest of the city is still black. In my opinion, the damage was pretty bad at Dominion/Jackson (altho I'm hearing Brickell and the beach are much worse... Coral Gables seems to have made out ok). Anyway, a MS3 who lives in DT had his interior walls blown out (a crazy scene). Lots of similar damage at DT. Additionally, lots of broken windows. Lots of down trees. Only 18 of 2600 traffic lights are working.
Anyway good luck applying. Despite the hurricanes, UMiami is a great place to study medicine. Stay safe and take care.

The interior walls??? That is nuts. Good luck, and be safe.
Here are my pictures from the storm. I'm hoping these pictures will help other Floridians realize that we should never take these storms lightly.

RUMOR: I was supposed to do a presentation at FIU and UM on Wed and Thur and I have been advised by one of the UM student organization leaders that UM has cancelled classes through Sunday. I only have that email as a source. I have had no contact from FIU in any form today....none from my buddy Hinkley either.

Wow, those are some interesting pics....now I see what is meant by the inside walls being blown out. At least you all are safe.
Mr. Larkin,
The University of Miami is shut down till Monday. However, some of our Deans might be in tomorrow. I just talked to some of my USF friends, Im glad to hear that you guys didnt get hit hard. Take care and I hope all is well.

They probably don't have power. 🙁
Wow. That is unbelievable.
Apparently my place has been spared (now, if only I could get home- any word on the airport in miami?)- and we even have power back on at the Beach.
Glad you guys are all ok- those are some crazy pictures...

Miami International started receiving flights at 5:02pm (I think that was the time) today. However, I havent heard any planes recently so they must be running at a limited capacity. I would call your airline for more info. Good luck getting home!
I have my UF interview on friday...apparently gainesville is alright? I assume it's still on...I tried calling the office today and couldnt get ahold of them though to check. since MIA is back in service hopefully my flight will be able to leave on thurs.
