Hey all,

As an FMG, does it improve your chances of matching if you have your application in by September 1st, and how crucial is it to have LORs from family med staff? It looks like 1 of my 2 FM rotations is not going to be approved, and the 2nd isn't until October. That means I can either submit to ERAS Sept 1st without any LORs from FM staff, or be delayed until end of October/early November by the time I get one written for me.

I should hopefully be an otherwise competitive applicant with good board scores (Step 1 >260, Step 2 pending), but I know it's going to get tight for IMGs/FMGs in the coming years even for primary care. Any advice would be appreciated, thanks!

We want to see letters from Family Medicine attendings. It always makes us wonder why you didn't have them if they aren't in your application. Did you do really poorly on the rotation? Are you applying to Family Medicine as your "back-up" and therefor didn't care to get any letters from them? While I would normally recommend having your application submitted on the first possible day, in this case I might consider waiting until you had 1 or 2 letters from Family Medicine attendings. Is there any way you could get your rotations adjusted so that you could get your family letters sooner?

Yeah, I will have to cancel a rotation somewhere and apply for family in its place. When you apply can they see your future rotations on your CV, so they know I'm doing >1 family rotation and not backing up?
