Maybe some of you have seen this before. I found this amusing post on the AMCAS MCAT discussion forum months ago (paraphrased):

If you really want to make sure you get into med school, donate your body to science. You will be a cadaver, but hey, the important thing is that you finally made it in.

Well, its not such a sure thing nowadays. Your body might end up in a crash test or being shot at or mutiliated by some tissue engineers at a biotech firm.

You still can get "kicked out" if you end up at UCLA and get sold to some 3rd party.

Oh well. It sounded good.

LOL... sounds riskier than going at it the traditional way.

Does anyone have any matriculation data to back up this hypothesis? 👍

good post though-- probably the best shot most of us have/had at getting into UCSF or HMS etc.

'Hey Ma, Good news, Hopkins decided to take me after all and you won't have to pay a dime'

I saw an episode of Crossing Jordan where this guy came to the U.S. to find his son. He had died, but was not identified so they were trying to track him down. They finally found out he his body had been donated to a medical school . . . and when they started to tell dad, he was like OH MY SON WAS IN MEDICAL SCHOOL and he got all weepy and happy. 😀 You know cause he felt like he had failed at everything in life.

Needless to say, they didn't correct him . . .

oh wait . . . did I make it clear that the dad already knew his son was dead? He just thought he died at medical school. He was just happy he was doing something with his life. Still sad, but not too bad.

About 47% of all applicants in a given cycle (in this case 2003) will matriculate to some allopathic school... not so bad really. 👍

My friend use to volunteer at our school's recommendation collection office and one recommendation said:

The only way I'd recommend this student to get into medical school is if he/she is a cadaver.

If I was an adcomm member I'd interview that student just to see if he/she was really that bad. Maybe it would help! 😀
