So... I applied to 17 schools and got my secondary applications in between July 25th and August 7... I haven't heard back from anyone (except a BU rejection), haven't gotten any secondaries from schools that make you earn them (eg. UCSF), and am starting to worry.
Do I have reason to believe that I f'ed up my application somehow? Or is this too early to panic? Does anyone know when I can expect to hear back about interviews?

I understand that it's a little nerve-racking to see everyone getting all these interviews. I haven't heard anything either. But, it is still too early and it's very likely that they just haven't got to your application yet. Hang in there. :luck:. You can start panicking in October

Ugh, yeah, waiting to hear back is pretty painful... when did you get all your stuff in?

Earliest was July 25th. Some I'm still waiting for to get my letters.. ugh... I posted the dates when I received "Complete" e-mail/statuses on my MDApps - it's helpful to see which "group" I am in and if some kind of notification is due.

Why would you panic if your stats are "through the roof?"

now I'm curious what his stats are.

maybe a school will see your panicked post under your username and send you a secondary.

I know the feeling. Just hang in there.

That would be awesome. They would think to themselves "this guy looks really stressed, I think I want to meet him and admit him to my medical school. This is the kind of man I would trust with my well being... he seems both conceded and desperate at the same time!"

As for through the roof, maybe that was an exaggeration, but I have above a 3.5 and a 32. Maybe not so high by SDN standards, but I'm happy with it.

I'm nervous because I thought I put together a good application, but lately I feel like somehow I did something wrong, as I thought I was all but guaranteed a bunch of interviews (I got my hopes up). I know people who applied at the same time and now have interviews (and have read about them on SDN).

Anyway, sorry for being so stressed, just wondering if anyone else was in the same boat as me, or if everyone else has interviews.

My last post was in reply to this, by the way

Yeah, I've been freaking out a bit too. I have applied to 35 schools, was complete at most by mid July, and to date have two outright rejections, two pre-interview holds, one interview, and the rest no news.

35 Schools?!?! Jesus!

Yup. 35 . I take nothing forgranted in this whole crazy process.

what is wrong with you dude, you CANT get much better SDN standards get over yourself

The interview process goes from July to March. It's August. Take a deep breath. There is a LONG way to go.

🙄

Anyone panicking in August is doing this wrong. Lots of schools haven't even sent any invites yet and many more have only sent one round of invites. If you weren't in the very first group that sent their app on June 1 or shortly after, you weren't going to get in the first group. Give it another couple of weeks and you'll all be fine.

Pretty lame bro. 👎.

Don't worry I applied to 33 schools. Verified on the very first day and I sent secondaries within like 2 - 3 days after they are released.. but haven't heard back yet from most of them (excpet 1 interview and 1 rejection)

I vote this the lamest thread of the year. It's ****ing August. The Early Decision deadline hasn't even passed.

Hahaha, I guess this is a pretty lame thread, sorry. Had a less than awesome day at work and came back feeling pretty bad and nervous about the rest of my life. Then realized that I would probably hate on this post if I read it. I got my answer, so thank you, I'll just sit around and hope for the best.

And by the way, whoever got an interview at BU, congrats, you must be a god on paper.

for some reason. i think hes right tho.

sdn seems to be filled with lots of ppl with 40/4.0s

AND

lots of ppl who know this person or that person with the 40/4.0 who already got rejected by boston/pritzker/mayo...

oh well. its gd to be here tho. gets me awake and knocks me off my pedestal😍

um, actually, it's pretty well known that BU screens out people they think have stats that are too high for them. so consider that a compliment.

Lol at this thread title...once December rolls around people will actually be pulling their hair out.

but what if you wait and wait and wait, from now till Dec. and hear NOTHING? I think that would suck a LOT.

But ya, I was complete so early at most schools, and I've heard nothing from most of them. 2 rejections, and one lukewarm interview from my state school that scheduled me for DEC. (WTF😡). So ya, it may be a lame thing to worry now, but it still sucks.

**** man, my AMCAS isn't even verified yet (no MCAT scores yet either, 7/30 MCAT), so the earliest I can start kicking stuff out is September. Calm the hell down, dude.

LOL. Don't worry, I don't think this thread is lame. It was actually quite entertaining to read. 🙂

I think most people can relate to how you feel. I remember I was kind of freaking out when I was just sitting on one interview, so I can only imagine how you feel.

You said you submitted your secondaries late July to early August. Although that's not considered late, most people who submitted their AMCAS early June began working on secondaries late June/early July. So be patient! Remember you also have to factor in when their AMCAS was verified, when they submitted their secondaries, and if they are in-state/OOS in relation to yourself. So pay attention to that too when you are looking through posts from people getting interview invites, maybe that will calm some nerves. 🙂

Eric Tan don't even worry bro. it seems as tho u are a raw ass dude. If I were on a med school admission board, I would prolly start stroking my 10 inch sausage as soon as I saw your application. I wouldn't sweat it dude, you'll get some interviews and the person interviewing u is gonna be so wet just waiting for you and ur stats to walk through the door. In fact while you are at the interview they are gonna be sitting there daydreaming about you bending them over the desk and plowing them with ur doctor sized wang until you make them scream "do me Eric Tan you awesome dude with a 37/4.0. I want u to dominate me like u dominated your mcat". Then chances are they will let u in.

OH EM GEE...freaking hilarious..ALL HOMO!!! Lol...

On a serious note though...What if we applied early but still havent heard back from certain schools? That means that they have already reviewed your application but chosen not to interview you, right? So, as the interview season goes on, won't they continue looking at new applications that come in and not go back to the apps that they sorted out at the beginning?

So, if we havent gotten an interview invite from a school that has already sent out numerous invitations, AND we applied early, is that a bad sign?

I don't know if that's a bad sign, so give them time. But it's probably not a good sign.

So what's the deal with BU? I don't know much about the school, but apparently they reject a lot of people early?

That is EXACTLY my fear...

True, this has Memet Okured at all other interviews I have had in life. During my interview to get into the UC Berkeley fraternity that I am in (that shall remain nameless), a kindly gentleman stroked me off then insisted that I was a "jefe gigante". Yet, I worry that med schools are different... I can just imagine the admissions committee officers, reading my application over between their daily routine of eating cereal and playing online poker, deciding that it was not up to par for whatever reason and putting it in the "los pateticos" pile and laughing about my misfortune.

I think you should start worrying about 2-3 months after submitting secondaries. It also depends on what schools you're talking about. For your state schools - you should worry about 2 months after secondaries. For all others, nobody has any clue.

Like BlueElmo said, it's not a good sign... but it's probably not the end of the app process for you either. I think a number of schools will take a second look at your application at a later time of the year.

37S is 98th percentile (not sure if the written plays into that percentile). Just because it isn't extraordinary on SDN doesn't mean it isn't good. So the OP was being neurotic, why do people get so pissed on here by people being neurotic about this stressful and life-course-determining process?

OP: Look at the end of the interview invite threads. If your school has no interview invites on there, then there is absolutely nothing to worry about for that school. Else you're not in their first priority group for interviewing but they may do it later.

Great advice. This is what I have been doing and it's helping me NOT panic. Most FL schools haven't started sending out invites to regular applicants (i.e., not EDP) ; either that or they're starting this week.
