Like is there any way they can tell? And if I can or should, then is there something DO schools like to stress?

I mean I can't see rewriting my essay just for another application, especially since a new one would basically just say the same thing.

for your AACOMAS personal statement, you CAN use your MD personal statement. (I used my MD personal statement for both.) your secondaries will address the issue of "Why D.O.?" and "Why [particular school]?"

For some reason my school's pre-health comm. hates pre-meds do that. They basically told me to rewrite a brand new my aacomas personal statement cos i didnt mention "why D.O." in it

Though I see the appeal in using the same personal statement for both, you should consider writing a new one for osteopathic medicine. There are some differences between the fields and admissions will like to see that you've put some thought into this.

Though it seems like a pain in the ass, such an important decision such as applying to medical schools should be handled with a lot of care and time. Good luck!

I used the same one for both. The secondaries will give you the opportunity to address why DO.

I think it's a waste of time to write two separate essays.

I did that and have received interview invitations. My PS dealt more with my motivations for going into medicine. For me, that had nothing to do with the MD vs DO philosophies so I saw no reason why it couldn't work for both MD and DO schools.

Agreed, That's what I did.

What she said. If your motivation and suitability for medicine are appropriately addressed in your PS, then there's no reason not to use it for both.

Unless your MD PS was harshing on DO schools... then you might want to change that part. 😛

Pre-health offices aren't always very helpful... it's too bad your school's pre-health office suggests students waste time writing 2 personal statements. I, like many others here, also used the same personal statement for both MD and DO applications. The DO one was a bit shorter and more concise just to fit the word limits. As others have said, applicants will have plenty of opportunity to answer the osteopathic-specific motivations in the secondary application.

I used the same one for both last time I applied...

I was searching on google and one of the personal statement editing services (comquestmed.com) says the following:
If you are applying to both Allopathic and Osteopathic medical schools, we highly recommend that you submit a separate personal statement tailored specifically to DO Programs. Osteopathic program admissions committees are skilled at identifying candidates who are applying to DO programs as a backup option, and are committed to admitting candidates who are fully interested in osteopathic medicine. COMQUEST is founded by an osteopathic physician, and your personal statement will be drafted and revised by professionals with admissions experts, who will furnish you with a dynamic statement that speaks directly to osteopathic community and admissions committees.
I think it's definately worth mentioning in the statement

Well that statement, for the most part is them trying to sell their editing service to you

I used the same statement for both, except the DO one was a little shorter and I had to condense a couple of paragraphs. I also didn't mention why DO in my personal statement and everything worked out fine, and I recently got accepted.
