For those of you with multiple acceptances...CONGRATULATIONS! Go celebrate and enjoy your success!

That being said, please do the responsible thing and respond to the schools ASAP.

If you are accepted at your top choice 👍, please politely withdraw your applications from other schools.

If you are still waiting for an interview from your top choice, please choose your best 1-2 available choices and make a deposit there and withdraw your applications (and cancel interviews) from other schools that is not your top choice. Please try not to make multiple deposits and let's keep it rolling for other applicants.

The rest of us without interviews or acceptances will be waiting. Thank you! 🙂

If you have multiple acceptances and you are not sure which school you want to go to most, or you could see your self at multiple schools, put a deposit down.

You never know which schools will give you a scholarship within the next 1-3 months. Imagine if you had your number 1 and 2 choices, or multiple schools tied for #1, and then withdrew from your #2, or other number 1's not knowing that they were just about to offer you a $10-$15K per year scholarship. That is $40-$60k saved over 4 years and when you factor in interest over 30 years that number would jump to ~$80-$120K. That is some serious DOUGH.

If that kinda money wouldn't impact your decision then withdraw, but don't withdraw just because others want you to, because you may disqualify yourself from 120K.

Putting down multiple deposits is not irresponsible, in fact I would argue that not putting down multiple deposits would be irresponsible!!!

I agree, this is a huge decision that shoutld not be made in a hurry.

Are you going to hold multiple spots until May if you don't get a scholarship offer?

If you've already gotten into a few of your top schools then you should withdraw your application from anywhere that hasn't given you an acceptance yet. Chances are if they didn't accept you on December 1st then they won't be offering you a scholarship. And somebody else moves up on the waitlist.

I agree with OP. Let those spots back up so a few of us can share in the happiness that comes with an acceptance.

Putting down multiple deposits seems wasteful and kind of inconsiderate. You're holding up the spots for the people who are on the waitlist or are looking for post-December interviews.

Scholarships are rare in dental schools unless you're top notch (ie, 3.9+, 24+ DAT). Both UCSF and UNLV told us on interview dates that they don't have many scholarships and the scholarships they do have is between $500-$2000. So by putting down multiple deposits, you're wasting your own money and everyone elses' time. My $0.02

I don't know why I expected any news today...Dec. 1st acceptances is for people with high stats.

If you are still waiting for an interview from your top choice, please choose your best available choice and make a deposit there (hopefully not ASDOH, but that's just my preference 😉). Please try not to make multiple deposits and let's keep it rolling for other applicants.

As soon as their mailed material reaches my home. I will withdraw my application from 16 (out of the 18 I applied to)... I am keeping 2 because they were my top 2 choices and I still have NO IDEA which one I am going to attend

Once you've received an offer, how long do you have to accept or reject the offer? How long do you have to put down your deposit?
(I ask as one of those who hopes that I get the call after people with offers choose to go elsewhere).

Thanks you!

I got into Midwestern and I am probably gonna pull out of the 3 other schools I interviewed at so that'll free up some room for you guys. Honestly, I understand how people feel, so I wouldn't hold more than one acceptance or even take up space once I've been accepted. GOOD LUCK!👍

I haven't been home all day so I don't have my "official" papers, but I was told at Louisville it's 30 days, cut back from the normal 45. Idk if that's just louisville or all, Dr. Babbage said AADSAS/ADEA changed it.

I only have one acceptance, therefore 1 deposit, however, if I get into IU in Jan, i'll have a tough decision to make.

I truly hope those of you waiting will hear good news. I was not confident at all going in this cycle and I don't have stellar numbers and am not a URM. Keep your hopes up!

@dentalworks- Thanks for freeing up some spots at 16 schools! congrats to you!

Need more people like this haha 👍. Thanks man!

so how do you notify schools that you're not going to attend? call, email, formal letter?

thanks. while i'm still confident that i will get spot, i'm not going to pretend the waiting and wondering doesn't grate on me. I want something great to happen. preferably now. 🙂 however, i also don't think it is my place to put myself in other people's shoes and make their decisions for them. if someone feels they need to keep 10 spots to make themselves feel more secure, and has the money to pay for 10 deposits, knowing they're going to forfeit 9, I suppose that's their decision. (and i completely understand the logic behind keeping 2 or 3 spots, while trying to decide). I'm just trying to figure out if I can put my eggs in a January basket, or wait for the May 1 watershed.

Information on holding spots and the grace periods can be found here. The regulations are set by AADSAS so they shouldn't differ from school to school. Hope this helps!

I will be opening up a seat at UMN & USC...

Well a spot for OHSU and an in-state spot for UNLV will be opening up soon. I got accepted to my number 1 school. GO BLUE!!

University of Michigan Class of 2015!! 😀👍:soexcited:
