Hi

I worked for Walgreens for a while now. I recently was given the option to resign because of making sexual innuendo to tech. Does that stay on my employee record? Can I return to the company in the future? I wrote on my resignation as moving to another location and resign for family reason. They accepted it. Any guidance on how to deal with the issue will be appreciated. Thank.

How did they convict you? They must have some physical evidence.

Hi

Two of the tech went to report me.They waited two month after the incident to report me. I think that is just to get back at me for some reason. So One of the tech is doing the witnessing. That tech is later fired for a separate reason. At the same time that I resign. I thought the best way is to be honest. So I admit making sexual joke. I should have denied it. They didn’t have any recording or anything. The manager said that three people heard my joke and the best way is to be honest.I do agree with the previous post about an excuse to replace me with the younger grads. I had four stores that submitted negative feedback on me. But then they immediately receive positive feedbacks that I improve. I asked the managers at the other store to fill out good review for me. The investigation took four weeks. HR comes with recommendations to terminate. But my DM let me resign. They had 2 grad interns who are getting licensed soon . I guess that is to make room for them.

I talked to 15 other pharmacist working for Walgreens. They agreed that my name was in the hat. They decided that I must be get rid of. So they jumped to the chance when something is up. I didn’t initiated the joke. Another technician did. I just joined in the conversation and made an inappropriate comment to the female tech. She said she won’t report at the time but I guess she changed her mind. I still wonder what happens to the tech who initiated the inappropriate conversation. I called ethic line because i am the only one suspended. The tech who initiated the inappropriate conversation didn’t get suspend. I since moved on and started working for different company. I just wonder if I can come back to Walgreens. You never know ...

I am not sure if you can be specific. But, getting fired over one joke is harsh. Not even a warning first?

No. Not even a warning. I make the joke out loud to both the female and male tech. They positioned themselves on the point that I made a sexual joke to an opposite sex person and therefore should be terminated. The corporate person kept telling me be honest. Be honest now and let us know about everything. Well. Honesty got me fired. I should have consult with my lawyer first before admitting anything. I just wonder if that is how they are trained. Tell the person to be honest. Then go by the book on what the person said.

Oh I forgot to mention. That’s a troubled store. 5 managers in 2 years. They all moved on to other job. Even the staff pharmacist. The last staff pharmacist that they have transferred after a year.

I don’t know if I should be specific on this forum. Otherwise they know it is me who post this.

My lawyer said I may have not a case since I can’t prove they discriminate me. I also don’t have money for a two year long lawsuit. I just went to a competitor and got a job within a month. I guess the market is not as bad as people say.

wow, I have the opposite problem, the techs hit on me

Chad vs. Incel. It pays to look good.

Anyway, employers are required to keep records for atleast three years but with the ease of electronic records it will probably be much longer. The complaint will probably always be filed somewhere. Why would you want to go back to a company like this anyway??

I don’t know. Never say never. Having a job is better than no job. I probably might not but who know what the future hold. I still have some student loan left.

It is an expensive lesson to learn. I heard according to new Walgreens hiring policies. There are three rounds of interview to get the job now.

I'm curious about your appearance. Appearance tends to unfairly determine whether or not you get Me-Too-ed

I don’t know why she was angry. She brought food for me and is very friendly. I guess I didn’t see her for what she is. I didn’t know her enough. Those jokes are only to be said to close friend. Not even at work. I learned my lesson. It is just a one time incident. So this is really harsh.

I think we could all have been fired many times over for low-inhib jokes which were truly innocent in nature, if the wrong person heard it. It's definitely a fad among young females to have a #SurvivorStory and businesses are not going to take on the liability of giving second chances, especially in these political conditions. Really sorry this happened to you OP.

I remember once, I said the c word after the store was closed down infront of an employee who doesn't like me very well because I have disciplined her in the past (for things that actually matter.) This store was a tight-knit group for the most part, close friends outside, like family, blah blah blah... You could say literally anything and not have to worry about your job. Except for this one new black sheep employee I forgot was around. As soon as I said it I regretted it. I feared she would use it as ammunition against me for months afterward. Luckily there was no consequence necessary for me to learn my lesson, but how scared I was...

Yea. I almost write up the other tech because he sold the wrong med to another person. Maybe they take revenge for their friend.

BY NOW..peeps should realize that when confronted by any authority..you clam up...IF it's worth it to you, lawyer up...make notes of everything that happens..The days of joking..yukking...being alone with..etc...techs are OVER....

Lot of guys get carried away when working with predominantly female staff and let their d!ck make the decisions which leads to these sort of things.

Just because tech initiated the conversation doesn’t mean you have to participate. She probably makes 10-15 an hour and doesn’t have **** to loose.

Some of my techs curse all the time but they would never catch me doing that at workplace. You should always maintain the image of ultimate professional with pharmacist salary.

LOL curse all the time => get them written up

With the new WM culture now is as good a time as any to turn the screws on any tech you want to get rid of. I'm really pushing accountability matrix and performance shortfalls to give people the axe

Be careful though. The tech didn’t report the incident after 2 months. They used it to get rid of me. Ain’t you scared that they might get back at you for being too rough on them? I scared or technician now. Got me lose my job.

If technicians aren't scared of you, you're not doing the job right. They must know consequences of improper behavior or performance failures, otherwise the work environment becomes a joke.

Very rare to find self-driven people to do retail tech work as this is a job for failed single moms typically

I have no intention of coaching someone. I like my techs. The point is they can curse or talk about whatever. I don’t do the same cause I don’t wanna be accused of saying anything inappropriate.

Now imagine a floater pharmacist using it against you because the techs do this same crap when you're not around.

At least now I can cut techs hours with impunity despite all the cavity-riddled teeth gnashing. LOL

It will be liability of the associate. If you use profanity and someone reports you, it’s on you; no one else.

And they aren’t that stupid. They would say those things only if they know the floater rph well.

I cried when they suspended me. It was an honest joke. I weren’t interest in her at all. I still have night mare about it from time to time. Probably a while before I get over it. I have been pharmacist for 6 years with no problem. This really comes out of no where. One day I got call to the office then I am gone.

How can a floater use it against you? “My techs swore while a floater was on duty? Unbelievable I have never heard them do that! Do you think the floater might have encouraged that behavior accidentally somehow?” God that would be the easiest assault to undermine in the history of workplace politics.

Um it is quite easy for the techs to throw you under the bus. "My PIC lets us do it all the time and it's not a problem"

“I never let them swear! Why do you think they would say that? Do you think they are upset that I don’t let them swear and are trying to get back at me?”

It doesn’t make any sense for techs to throw the pharmacist under the bus though. I mean they know that their regular pharmacist wasn’t the one who reported them (otherwise they would have been reported already countless times).

And they know that the argument of regular pharmacist allowing it wouldn’t really benefit them either: So what? You are an adult and should know better not to curse at workplace.

And in case if they become convinced that techs were cursing in your presence, you might receive just a mild slap on the wrist.

“It has been drawn to my attention that your techs sometimes use inappropriate language. This is unacceptable and make sure you control their behavior going forward”.

They can’t really do more than this because I am not the one doing it.

This is why you always want to be on the SM and dms good side

Yea. I feel like that store manager does not like me. But who does she like. Within 2 years. There has been 6 pharmacists go through that store. Nobody stays. The dm is okay. He praised me for good work sometimes.

Some people just want to watch the world burn...
Some just want to gossip and talk about others because it makes them feel good...
Ive seen way too many unprofessional techs that do this. Probably bc they lack the professionalism, empathy and sense of importance in patient care. Not all techs are this way but many are. Which is why i think its a good thing that theyre changing the law to require for techs to attend school.

Best thing to do is chat with them.

Most complain about everything so agree and add things. Others are perfectionists so you have to show you care about every metric. The list goes on

Basically you should be their favorite employee.

I agree. But that’s where your reputation comes in. If you have established yourself as a professional individual, then you won’t have much to fear from any accusation. One of my manger friends was wrongfully accused of sexual harassment by his tech whom he was trying to get rid of because of poor performance. But in that case, everyone stood behind him because he had a clean record as you stated. And that person was eventually fired.

Now if he had a history of making jokes, then the situation would have been completely different. My first pharmacy manger was such person. He was an idiot who said anything he wanted, when he wanted and that cost him his job. No one would believe a word from him.

If you gave a notice I think they might let you back there. Though I wouldn't bother.

This. Just adapt to the store you’re at. Play the role they want you to play.
