Hello SDN,

I've recently applied and have been accepted into VT as a transfer student from GMU. (both 4year universities in VA)

I have taken quite a lot of my pre-med courses at GMU (physics 1/2, gen chem 1/2, org 1/2, english composition 1, calc 1/2, biostat, genetics, cell bio).

Only problem is that VT's biochemistry program requires general biology 2, a class which GMU does not offer. My cell biology class from GMU transferred into VT as a general biology 1 course, this forces me to take general biology 2 over the summer so I can take classes such as microbiology and higher level bio courses. I also have to take English 2 composition before the start of my Fall semester at VT, english 1/2 must be completed by freshmen year at VT)

I've looked through the SDN recent posts but have not seen anything like mine, most were students transferring from CC to 4year and very dated.

I'm wondering if taking general biology 2 and english 2 composition at a community college during the summer would be fine. I've already done pretty well in higher level biology courses at a 4year univ. and plan to take more in the future. I know schools prefer classes taken at a 4year institute but since this is "general biology", a class that every pre-med must take will this be fine?

Absolutely fine. Besides, you have little recourse and a track record that should speak for itself.

Agreed.

Op since you have already done well in your upper division bio courses at a 4 year university, it is unlikely that anyone will think twice about you taking a lower division bio course at a cc. Just keep up the good work and you should be fine.

Your higher level courses were taken at a four year university anyway, so I don't see this being an issue. I agree with the others.
