Hi, I'm an American graduate from an US-credentialed osteopathic medical school.

I am currently working on my German language fluency and intend on getting further training with the Goethe Institut. Also I have some US residency experience but am soon desiring to seek further training in Germany.

Where would I go to see if my Medical school is recognized in Germany and the exact location I would need to look for an Assistenzart position?

Could you also please explain the nature and culture of German residency programs? What is expected of interns, second years, etc.? How formal evaluations are made? The amount of responsibility residents are allotted? The general working conditions and hours? The more friendly and open areas of Germany... And the allowance to preform procedures? Also, which specialties are the ones that Germany is most known for besides orthopedic surgery?

I do somewhat understand German culture as a whole, because I have family ties there, but what is the medical culture like? For instance, American culture is different from its medical culture on the whole: there are nuances to the medical culture that would shock the average US citizen if they new them.

I appreciate your time.

have a nice day!

I am a medical student doing my internship in a medical school in India. I aspire to be a surgeon. I read though your answers in the forum and found many information helpful. i would like to get your suggestion reg. option of working as a research assistant under some doctor or a hospital ( hopefully with a decent pay) for a couple of years while i can get hold of the language in the meantime, thereafter, apply to some medical university there for a post graduate training in surgery / orthopedics. This option was laid down by one of my senior professors in my medical school. i am keen to know the practicality of this option out of your experience. expecting an early reply :) thank you ..
hey, i have also just completed my internship from India and i am trying to go to Germany for residency. from what i found out we have to have a good command of the language to be able to apply for the residency programs.
i still have no idea what is the procedure to get registered under the German Medical Council and the chances of getting a PR. it will be nice if anyone could help me with some info regarding that.
my email id is [email protected].
thank you.

can anyone validate this german company germanmedizin.de? they are offering specialisation in germany for a hefty fee. is this a scam?

Your medical degree will be eligible with the condition that you have
to clear a Viva knowledge test before getting practicing
Licese.Preparations will be given by us.This test will not be much
difficult if you learn good German. You can do B2 level German at any
Goethe institute or language schools in your country. You may also do
German language course in Germany. We will assist you in that
case.Student living costs in Germany are around 500 euros
monthly.Consider 6-8 months for completing German language B2 level.

Our total fees is 35,000 euros(45,000 euros for surgery). You will
have to pay 15,000 euros initially upon starting the process and
signing our contract and rest amount upon starting Specialization in
Germany, which can be paid in monthly installments from your salary. If
you change your decision(eg. you suddenly prefer to do somewhere else)
after we start the process, 50% of initial payment will not be refunded.

Medical Specialization in Germany is mainly done in hospitals
working as Assistant doctors and attending certain seminars and exams
related to your subject .It is more of practical training .After 6
years you will have a state examination and upon clearing it you will
get 'facharzt' degree title (Specialized doctor).

hi,i've been looking for info regarding masters in surgery abt Germany and other scandinavian countries too..
after a hectic search i found out that we have to complete the B2 language level, which is hard, and then apply for the hospitals directly... anyway i'll copy paste the info here

no tution fees in germany

secondly u can easily get any branch u want to do either general medicine to cardiothoracic surgeon

stipend 3800 euro per month to 4300 euro per month depanding upon the location

german language is must . but can guide u how to do it.

admission process without german langauge .. u can start the admission process without german language.can book ur seat in hospital and this process will take around 45 days and till then u can study german language.. side by side when u get letter.. then start focusing seriously on german language .. becoz admission letter will give u the boost ..so u will get it.
but in this procedure u will first get the hospitation which means a internship for around 2 months.before start ur specialisation.. becoz u didnot prove any german language certificate.. and u just booked ur seat.. so they invite u for hospitation.. to see ur language skills and to meet u personally .. and within 2 months they will give u the specialisation or superpg branch u want.. thats the most easiest way to secure ur position. during hospitation.. no stipend will be paid.. u will get accomodation and food by the hospital and lab coats as well.

if u passed exam and then proceed
the procedure will be get diffrent.. either follow procedure 1.. go for hospitation and show ur certificate... of german passed level.. and take ur specialisation.

or dont start the process till u passed level of german language and then apply directly for pg or superpg.. send all ur documents .. and go there..

demand of german language = b2 level..will solve ur all problems..sometimes b1 can work.. during hospitation process .. but before start pg or super pg u need to show the document of b2.

DONT TRUST ON INDIAN CONSULTANCIES.. WHO EVEN DONT KNOW HOW MANY MEDICAL COUNCIL ARE IN GERMANY.. WHAT THE PROCEDURE.. THEY JUST SAID .. U WILL GET ADMISSION IN THIS UNIVERISITIES OR THIS UNIVERISITIES.. NO UNIVERISITIES OFFER POSTGRAUDATE PROGRAMS FOR INTERNATIONAL STUDENT IN THE FIELD OF MEDICINE CLINICAL BRANCHES

hello to everybody :)
I am an EU med student and I will recieve my diploma in January 2016. I'd like to pg in plastic surgery in Germany and I already started taking German courses. I plan on reaching C1 in German for the timeframe given.
Can you please give me some advices on cities and hospitals in Germany where I can do my specialization in plastic surgery? My top priorities are very high quality of education and practice and also a good salary with the quality on first place. So basically can you tell me the best places and hospitals for plastics? Thanks and have a great day :)

Unfortunately, most vacancies offered are in the rural areas, so you'll have a pretty much next to impossible chance of getting into a hospital in a big city (unless you're studying in Germany of course.)

You can get in touch with the agencies that recruit graduates. A google search should get you started.

Hello,

I did my medical degree from Saint Petersburg, looking forward to continue internship(practice) in Germany & learn Germany language as well. Guys if you do have any possibility to help me out with the procedures through.

Will appreciate it thanks

Hi all,

I am a graduated doctor with a few years of clinical experience in China, I am currently looking for a residency in anaesthesia and I would like to enquire if anyone knows which hospital in Germany which you can apply to, and is more reputable?

In case I should find agencies, anyone knows which agencies to reach out to?

Thanks a lot.
