I forgot to put the postage on 5 envelopes containing the checks for application fees. I sent them on Friday and got one back on monday. I went to the postal office and they told me that they rest have been sent and that the recipient will be charged for the postage, and if they dont pay for them, they are sent back to me. Now I dont know whether I should wait and see if the schools will pay the postage for me, which would take a while or if I should send another batch of checks but the thing that worries me is if they cash both checks. What do you guys think.

don't write more checks!! The schools might cash both and then there will be a HUGE mix up...just wait and see what they do. Maybe call them and let them know. 👍

Just cancel the checks you haven't received yet and then send new ones. This would probably be the fastest option, as I'm not sure how long it takes for school's to even get to processing your payment.

Yea taking the slight fee and cancelling the checks would be the best option. But then again what if they cashed both and one went through and the other didnt go through so they marked that you didnt pay. Youd never know until you call in to check in a month...

This is a big screw up on your part lol. Some schools take awhile to cash the check too... so youd think they didnt get it while they actually did. They might not pay the postage but the mail might end up in lingo for awhile. They might have gotten it but havnt cashed it yet. Id assume you would want your app reviewed asap.

I mailed each cheque with tracking to avoid this very problem. $5.60 each 🙁

Why would you do that?

The only reason there is a mix up is because the OP didn't put stamps on.

Double check, triple check everything. You don't want to become a royal pain to the adcoms. Tisk, tisk.

Yea, they figure if you forgot to put stamps, you'll forget to give your pt anesthetic. Auto-reject 😉

Wait a minute, if a person puts on tracking, that usually automatically puts on postage with the envelope. The postage is not necessarily as a stamp, its the sticker that the postal worker puts on the envelope while you're at the post office.

If you paid $5 for tracking, I'm sure that would include postage.

Also, the post office people will (usually) never let you send an envelope without postage.

Did you run into complications because you did all your transactions online? Did you not physically go to the post office?

Mr. Beans is right
when I go to Canada Post's post office and ask for it to be "registered" (aka tracking), they put on the sticker AND postage stamps for me. Costs 20$ to mail it to NYU =(

Naw, if the schools still cash the cancelled checks, a chargeback fee of $35 will be incurred for each check ...

Sorry to hear about your screw up, sadly I don't think there is a correct answer to this question. You might just have to wait this one out and see what happens even though it jeopardizes your chances of getting in. Might I suggest you do tracking on your next set of checks you mail out? I did that for mine and it is a lot more reassuring.
