Even though I'm sure everybody who is going to post their form has done it, I thought I'd get one going on form BN.

I thought Phys Sci wasn't too bad. I though Verbal was moderately difficult. I thought Bio was average. There was that one passage about "tuffs" that was pretty tough (hey, that was sort of a pun).

Did ANYBODY have form BN?

I had form BN too. I had a fairly rough time with PS ... but then, that has not been my strongest section, ever. I was just thankful to be able to get through all the questions before the time was up! 🙂 VR and BS I didn't think were too bad ... The tuffs passage was pretty weird, though.

I had form BN too. I did think the Physical was tough... it is my weakest section by far. But there were 2 passages on the Doppler Effect of light which thre me. I think one was probably the experimental but who knows. I actually thought that section started easier and then just got worse towards the end. But it was the first time I had ever finished on time so that was good 🙂

The Verbal was okay. I actually though the first passage on the medicine in the Middle Ages was the most confusing. I saved the ten question on Thoreau to the end and it was actually one of the easiest I thought. The Bio was also okay, but a lot more emphasis on evolutionary bio and fungi/yeast than I had expected. I was surprised at how little physiology was on there. The tuffs were bizarre and I found some of the evolution passages difficult, though I think it is because I have actually had too much study and research in that area so it was hard to eliminate answers because I was just thinking too much. I was also very tired by that section and am hoping I didn't make dumb mistakes.

Anyway, I really have no sense for how I did overall, am just glad it is over.

Azpremed,

Your mention of a "Thoreau" passage worries me. I took the BN form yesterday and have no memory of a passage dealing directly with him. Was the passage a biography of him? I don't want a full summary but some more information to calm myself down. I'm starting to think I may have forgotten that passage. Was he Thoreau the author or the subject of the passage?

The tuffs passage, if I remember correctly, was about the evolution of the molars of some critter (squirrel, maybe?) before and after a volcanic eruption.

I also don't remember a thoreau passage. But I was kind of rushed on the Verbal section.

the passage that only some of you had and some of you didn't on the same form might be the experimental passage...b/c i doubt you would've skipped one by accident. you would have noticed a big block of unanswered questions on the scantron sheet.

I had form BN as well and thought that the PS was actually quite difficult...especially the passage about NaF dissolved in water. that was really annoying. Also, the kepler's law passage was a bit strange...too many non-calculation based questions.

Okay, I am scared that I may have missed a verbal passage becasue I sure as hell don't remember the passage on 'Thoreau'🙁

Bio was okay except the passage on cAMP which had many answer choices that could have gone either way..

I hope the curve works in favor...I hope

My experience with the BN test yesterday:

I found Physical Science more difficult than any of the practice AAMC tests, and this surprise caused some initial anxiety. I was able to get through it all (except for a few guesses at the end), but I did not find too much of it very straightforward.

I thought verbal was fairly easy. The science passages were interesting, and I was relieved to find no passages detailing an art period or movement. While I had to guess on the last two questions, none of the passages gave me too much trouble.

In Biology, I had a little more anxiety, which means I failed to manage my time for this section. I didn't think the organic chemistry sections were too difficult, which has been my weakest subject. It seemed more questions derived from the passages than those found on the practice AAMC tests.

So, like many of you, I have no idea whether I did well or not. I can only take solace in the fact that I never felt confident leaving a practice exam, even when I did well on it.

Yeah, that tuffs passage was difficult to grasp. What did people put for the question asking whether stabilizing, disruptive, directional or group selection was taking place? I either put directional or stabilizing. I couldn't decide whether the shift in molar size was significant enough and kept switching between the 2 answers. And, did it show one or two species and why? I felt like they didn't give enough information and really wanted us to make assumptions. I also thought the cAMP passage was hard...I put down a lot of A's unknowingly until I finished the passage. I hate that...feeling like there must be a wrong answer because there's too many of the same letter. I also felt like there was a passage in verbal with a lot of B's. Ok, I'll shut up now. I don't mean to make you all nervous thinking about what you put. I already know I made some careless errors. I'll just have to pray for the best!

Hey all,

Didn't mean to get people all worried with my mention of Thoreau. He wrote the passage... it was an exerpt from his Civil Disobedience . It one of the middle passages, like # 5 or 6, and was the rather philosophical passage about obeying the laws of the government and trying to make the government one that was more just, etc. I took several political theory classes so I recongnized it immediately and then I checked the citations in the back since I finished the section a bit early and the citation confirmed that it was indeed Thoreau. Anyway, I saved it for the end since he was definitely tough reading when I took the pol theory classes. But the qestions they asked seemed fairly straight forward, except a couple of them, so I thought that passage actually went pretty well. Hope that clears it up 🙂

I actually thought the stabilizing, disruptive, directional, etc was not a good question. I am in an upper division evolutionary biology class now and have been doing this stuff since January and it seemed to me that the case they gave us was not cut and dry enough to make that judgement. It also could have gone either way as to whether or not it was one species or two. And what you put for how many species it was would influence your answer choice for the selection. I honestly do not remember what I ended up putting... I think I have blanked a lot it out... but I really did not like the molar passage at all because of its ambiguities.

Okay, yeah, I remember that Thoreau passage, now 🙂 .

For the tuffs passage, I put directional (only a guess), because the line was going in "a direction" 😀 . I also put two species because they were of different size. What the heck is the morphospecies concept anyways? I've never heard of it. Any chance that was the "experimental" passage?

Hi guys...I feel like we're all in the boat. and a few guesses here and there are going to be the difference in the scores.

azpremed thanx for clearing that up about the 'thoreau' passage. It wasn't too bad, but again some questions were subjective. I thought the passage on literary criticism was uncalled for... oh well.

The answer to the evolutionary question was directional because the line was slating to right. I know because I had a lecture on that specific graph in my geology class on THURSDAY....call that lucky😉

I THINK it has to have two species (answer to sonnerpillow's question) because of the variance and direction of the line...

It was an unfair passage I think if a person hasn't really been initiated into Geology....bastards+pissed+

Now, we can just PRAY!!

Sooner, the morphospecies concept is when you classify a species based on phenotype. More specifically you pick a specific "type" with certain characteristics to represent a species and then assign others to the species based on their similarity to the "type." I know that this was not convered in my intro bio year. I have just learned a lot about this stuff in my upper division evolutionary biology class. Maybe it was the experimental since it seems like it was material that was a bit out of the round of intro bio and more in the realm of more advanced evolutionary biology and, as Harps said, geology.
