fourth year rotations

I've heard upperclassmen say that residency programs want you to be well rounded. But at the same time, you want to do several "audition" rotations. How many rotations in one specialty is too much? I'm planning on doing one third year core and 4.5 months of electives in a given specialty (peds). Is this too much?

Just do a bunch of IM months and tell your interviewers there's no difference since kids are just little adults.

Depends on your personal situation. ie how competitive are you for the given specialty you're applying to. If you want something extremely competitive... do as many aways as possible. If not, enjoy your clinical years and do / see what you want. Keep in mind that every doc you talk to has already matched thier specialty, and thus can easily say that IDEALY you should see eveything possible. On the other hand, most neurosurgery programs for instance arent going to take ANYONE that hasnt rounded there.
