Ok, so these people came in today from atlanta georgia (very little english). They wanted two rx's transferred from walgreens, i work for CVS. So I transfer them down, get them ready and since they were georgia medicaid they had to pay cash. Well, when they saw the prices, all of a sudden they wanted me to use the brothers Fl medicaid for the grandmothers rx. I was like "um, ins fruad"!. Then When i told them no, i would not do that, this family took my name and said they were going to report me to god knows who. Then they stated that I was obligated to give them a weeks worth of medication for free.:laugh:. I stopped right there and walked away. I gave them the price and told them that was the price. Man o Man, then they really said they were gonna report me. In the end, they paid for the meds. I would not hesitate to loan a few pills, but they wanted like $150 worth of meds for free. What the heck???? Anyway, it flustered me cause they would not leave. They paid and in the end said thank you. I love pharmacy!

Some people, for whatever reason, seem to think payment is optional at the pharmacy. I mean, medicaid patients here are legitimately allowed to waive their copay if they don't have the money, but the other day a woman came up to me and said she'd left her wallet at home, and could we just give her the medicine anyway. She wasn't medicaid.

Um, no--- go home, get your wallet, and come back!

Wow about yours, though; wanting $150 worth for free? That's chutzpah.

I use to work in NY and they also could "wave their copay". I mean come on!!! Free? Like I said, i will loan a few pills , but they wanted 45 precose and like 72 gabapentin!!!!! oh well, hopefully they go back to walgreens soon!:scared:

No waiving copays in CA!

But....then.....we allow all sorts of folks on Medicaid. You don't even have to have documentation.....

But....$1.00 buys a lot of Trinessa!

Do you have to be a citizen of the US to get medicaid? I would hope so. But probably not. I dont mind forking over taxes for people who need aid, i am blessed with a great profession, but please dont come in demanding free drugs and if i dont give them to you, you are going to report me! Oh well, like i said, i enjoy my profession and like wha i do, but sometimes you just wanna....

I work in MA, and Medicaid peoples are allowed to waive their copay. It pretty much turned into people basically saying that they never had any money ALL THE TIME; might as well have gotten rid of the copay completely. Thankfully not too many people know about this, but the ones that do are a tremendous pain in the ass. We started keeping tabs and then have to threaten to give them like, a weeks refill at a time so that they'll pay. Granted, they ARE really poor, and some of them are actually good honest people and pay their balance without us asking, but that should be the standard, not the exception.

I work in MA, too. I like the people that pull up to the drive-through in their SUV, yappin' on their cell phone, with a fancy manicure, and want to waive their copay.

The man is totally holding them down because they got bills to pay...for their sidekick, crappy ringtones, gold, sneakers, baggy ass pants, ipod, 20" rims on their leased excalade, manicure/pedicure, weave, dolce and gabanna stunna shades, blingin watch, baseball caps with the tags still on them...oh yeah, and the extremely baggy pointy-hood hoodie!

Granted a lot of my clientele really are dirt poor (not that they're easier to deal with) but the people who are wearin clothes more expensive than mines definitely take the cake.

Since I'm a student and therefore poor I ALMOST applied for MassHealth, but my conscience got the better part of me...who can say no to 1/3 dollar copays?!?

That was definitely my next question, what drugs they were wanting. Normally our patients don't get that worked up unless it's either Xanax, Soma's, or Lortabs. Then they result to any means necessary to get them. Luckily, I am not aware of "waiving" copays here in Georgia, and I've never been confronted with it either, so I'm assuming GA doesn't participate in that.

Wow, don't even get me started on Medicaid and certain people who really DO NOT need or deserve it! Yes, you have to be a citizen, but the problem is that this country is making it so easy to obtain citizenship that everybody can get medicaid. I hate seeing tax money being washed down the drain while there are MANY other people who desperately need this service who do not qualify. Oh well. And then you have the people who want to get ticked off at you for their copays being so high! I always politely give the speach... "Sir/Ma'am, we have no control or oversight as to what you are charged for your copays. Please call your insurance company and ask them, because evidently you didn't read their fine print regarding formularys or tiers. If you would like, please come inside, and we will be happy to call them for you and have them explain the same thing I just explained to you." Wow, I really do love this profession!!! Can't wait to graduate and at least get paid well for putting up with some of the things I have to put up with!
