Hey everyone,

Kinda a two-part thread here...

I got this forwarded from my school's pre-health department; if you complete this survey you'll get a free EK full length (FL #4): Student Doctor Admissions Prep Week 2018 Survey

Note: it takes 24-48 hours to receive an email after you complete the survey, and you only have 30 days of access after completing the survey

Also, if any of you guys complete it, let me know how you did. I just completed it earlier and I thought it was much harder than the other full lengths I've taken... they only give you a percentage score, but I did pretty terrible overall! 🙁 Does anyone know if EK tests are representative of the real thing? I don't know if I was having an off day or what, but this was probably the worst test I've taken (I've taken a few Kaplans, a NS, and one AAMC and they all felt easier than this)

Thanks for sharing.

Okay so I have read the EK books cover to cover (along with Kaplan) and have done all their questions in book and one of their FLs as well. First the good: They make some very solid connections and bring together the different parts of the sciences in a very cohesive way. The bad: There are a crap ton of mistakes, and questions that are just wrong, then there also really try hard questions where they made it difficult through a different tactic than AAMC, as in they just make their wording vague and weird. AAMC has a more direct way of asking things, yes they have very difficult questions as well, but the way they make their questions difficult is quite different from way EK makes their questions difficult .

That all being said. I found FL1 useful. My performance there was exactly the same as my Kaplan one, which is to say not super good but not awful either. Just for reference, I usually get 515+ NS exams and my AAMC FL1 was 518, with very few misses per section, but I missed something like 14 questions in the chem/phys section of the EK which is usually my strongest section. I think NS was the one most close to my AAMC FL score. But I still like EK, why? Because they're literally the only company where you actually need to read the damn passage. Most other FLs just have a passage, but the questions are really discrete, they do not depend on the passage. Sure AAMC has this too, but they also have plenty where the passage IS needed, and those are usually harder as they require interpretation and a merging of existing knowledge with new acquired knowledge you got from the passage.

I recommend you take the EK exams, but do not be discouraged with poor performance nor think that it is predictive of your actual abilities come MCAT day. EK themselves explicitly say in their books that the questions they pick are hard and should not be used for assessment, only for learning. Just make sure you know WHY you missed the questions that you did miss.
