I think its great companies want to give free stuff to dental students. I was wondering what everyone has gotten and how they got it? This may be helpful for students starting this year.

We have gotten a sonic care elite, an oral B sonic, TONS of manual brushes, TONS of toothpaste, and one measly pack of glide floss! Crest gave us a few spin brushes. Colgate is great for toothpaste. We also had an implant company give us a bunch of implant stuff so we can "show" our patients about implants.

Only thing I would want more of is floss, that stuff is like a hidden treasure around here!!!!

Ditto. What's up with that?

At meetings you can usually load up on brushes, toothpaste, listerine and more. I have tons of opalescence sitting in my fridge now, just ask for free sample packs.

It prolongs the shelf life of the bleach.

How do you guys get those free opalescence samples? if not at meetings?

Thanks

To my knowledge, meetings are the only way you can get them.

Tres White sucks. They don't adapt well to teeth at all and all you end up doing is getting glops of whitening gel in your mouth. ick.

I'll have to agree with Tooth_Sleuth.

I've recieved samples of that at work. It terrible. First of all, the "trays" fall apart and then you have foul tasting gel in your mouth, and if you don't have a toothbrush handy, good luck getting that stuff outta your mouth. Additionally, the bleach solution is only 9%. Pretty weak stuff compared to the 22% and even 30% we have our patients use.

Agreed. Custom trays are the only way to go (if you can afford it). 30%?Damn, that's a lot! You're sure that's not for in-house bleaching? The most my school uses (and that I've come across thru opalescence reps) is 20%.

Ultradent reps come all the time and sit in the student lounge giving stuff out. They don't remember you, so you can always go back and ask for more.

It's just Dan Fisher's (The CEO of Ultradent and a great dental innovator) attempt to collect some of the ridiculous amount of $$ that the folks at Proctor & Gamble are making off of Whitestrips.

Ultradent and Opalescence hit the home run with phase one of at home bleaching, but the folks at P&G had the revolutionary advancement with whitestrips that really had the bleaching revolution explode to what it is today. (some kudo's can also be given to Bill Dorfman (CEO of Discus Dental) and his plugging of Zoom all over Extreme Makeover)

Nope... there is a 30% home whitening solution. I use it. I use the Rembrandt. It works great. 2X a day for only a half hour! Can't beat it!
