I’m dealing with a concerning charge of several hundred dollars of water use for a property that no one should have had access to when the charges occurred (and it’s an irregular usage pattern, so not a leak situation). Beyond the money, it disturbs me that someone may have been squatting there or something.

Being in pediatrics, and consistently being fascinated by psychological research related to language, I have been thinking a bit about this over time. While it is not a direct answer to your musings, I have posted a link to an interesting JAMA article studying use of emojis amongst communication amongst medical clinicians:

of note, The authors statement on the emotional piece is quite interesting.

"While clinicians rarely used ideograms to refer to objects, events, or ideas (11 [7% of tokens]), these symbols nonetheless added at least some new information in the majority of instances (122 [71%]). Clinicians used ideograms most often to add emotive content to their texts (61%). In particular, they modulated the intensity of speech acts as in the message “just add flagyl for anaerobes and ditch the clinda! 🙂.” Because emotions are often conveyed through features of language not representable in standard orthographic format, the addition of this information through ideograms can provide important contextualization, evaluation, and disambiguation for the messages to which they are added."

In contrast, the following article, https://journals.sagepub.com/doi/full/10.1177/1932296820965588

describes the endorsement from pediatric patients with type 1 diabetes suggested "some adolescents reflected on how support in the form of comments and likes felt superficial. Given that many members of their social media communities do not understand the burden of diabetes management, even positive responses could create feelings of alienation."

Either way, it's an interesting development over the past decade or so.
Kathleen Bogart at Oregon State does some really interesting work on communication of emotions in people who physically can’t make facial expressions due to nerve issues.

For our first, my wife made me drive her to Taco Bell because she wanted a single nacho from them. After we ordered she no longer wanted that and instead ate what I ordered instead. She also got extremely nauseous to the smell of soy sauce, which she usually loves. Among many, many other things. Pregnancy is weird. If men were the ones to get pregnant, we'd have died out as a species long ago. Don't know how you ladies do it.
When two people love each other very much….

What kind of cake and when are you do and congrats it’s gonna be amazing!
Thank you! White sheet cake with vanilla frosting and a frosting flower on it. Like 80s old school birthday style. I tried to eat a different kind of cake and it did not count to my brain. Bodies and brains are weird.

Sorry- that sucks. After a few months, we just got reimbursed for ~$900 spent on utilities in Georgia! We live in MA, and were in Maine (apparently a big target spot for Debit Card number theft) at the time of the transaction. Fortunately, the bank was very helpful- just took a little while.

Thankfully, the water company waived the charges after I was able to demonstrate that I had literally been an ocean away!

On the topic of water bills- I was just up at the family camp in Northern NH. Drought conditions are for real- the pond and rivers lower than I've ever seen them. Additionally, water table is extremely low, to the point where our well has basically run dry. The well pump would only work for about 30 minutes before sucking and losing its priming. Fortunately, my friend and I aren't fancy and don't have an issue with filling a bucket from the pond to flush the toilets, and it's not like we were drinking water (a few bottles of Angel's Envy and a bottle of Bozal mezcal, plus some locals brews kept us hydrated enough!).

This is an annual friends fishing trip. We insist on still trying to play Arkham Horror Board Game, and pretty much mess up at least 2-3 rules every play through (said more than once during or after a game- "hey, what is/was this token supposed to be used for). Still a lot of fun. We also did a few games of Flashpoint: Fire Rescue, which is easy enough. We also brought Skyrim to play the 2nd season. It's been a year or so since playthrough of season 1, and between the Dark Manhattans and the number of rules and game pieces, we figure it'd wouldn't be worth the effort.

After a lot of time & energy spent over the last couple of months getting started in PP, I received my first direct referral from another provider. I don’t believe I’ve ever even spoken to the provider before, but the client voicemail said that the other provider thought my expertise would be a better fit. Feels good to see I’m building a positive reputation in the PP world!

It has been a week for weird comments on my pregnancy. They're lucky I'm too tired to fight.
