That usually takes twice as long and involves at least one unplanned run to the hardware store. I still do it though.
But it's also FUN! From someone who likely would've really enjoyed construction in another life.

When I took the BS MBTI (for no other reason than talking to others about it during a party) under career it told me to prioritize jobs in construction and avoid the helping profession.

I'd like to think I would have been a high rise crane operator if things were different.

I see them on my reels. Seems pretty chill.

Anyone have any fun holiday weekend plans?
The university affiliated with my AMC hosts a MLK remembrance march on Monday. I have been participating in them for the past 7 years or so and always encourage people to look into local ones in their area. They provide a very nice moment for both light exercise and mindful reflection; two things we always encourage in psych 🙂.

Hope you are having a good weekend too!

Stay safe from Winter Storm Fern, folks. It looks like a bad one.
We're at a -40 something windchill here, but whose really counting. It's the difference between freezing to death in 10 minutes versus 5.

Yeah, it's really cold here (-33 windchill), which is bringing me back to my grad school days.

Was just in Singapore where it was 88 and very humid (spouse is Singaporean so I visit their family during the Christmas break). The whiplash from this extreme to the other and back again has been ... I'm just amazed I'm still functioning.

We're hearty folk. We're more worried about ICE shooting us in the face here than we are about a cold snap.

Has ICE operations impacted your work at all? Someone in the psychologist testing group was talking about Minnesota universities going remote, which impacted their grad classes.

Nah, most of my patients are old white folk, and my legal work is mostly younger white folk. Don't get too many undocumented or protected status migrants launching too many personal injury lawsuits here.

And you wanted me to move there...

The guy shot by ICE in Minneapolis was apparently a VA ICU nurse.
Don’t know about you all, but I’m having a difficult time with this ICE stuff. Watching the news and having to actively process this is present day US and not Nazi Germany or the like…

I can understand the sentiment. Everyone compares this to Nazi Germany. The truth is that this is classic America. Just one that we have forgotten. Look up the book "White trash: the 400 year old untold history of class in America" . Replace slaves with latin immigrants and you will see us repeating our own history. America wants cheap servant labor. It just doesn't want those cheap servants to grow in numbers large enough to displace the existing power structure.

I saw the video of the lawyer questioning (cross examining?) him and EESH, that did not go well for the lawyer. All of the attorneys I follow on BlueSky were saying it was brutal.
My 12 yr old introduced me to that story. My kiddo teaches me some strange stuff!

It did not go well at all. I have been told ithe whole thing is worth watching, so I may do that during contact naps.

I spent the greater part of yesterday evening going down a rabbit hole into Paul Bowary's case.

tl;dr IMG resident takes the Step 3 licensing exam (the last of 3 to be able to practice as a physician in the states), fails twice. Fakes a score report to show that he passed, and applied for a license. There was a lot of back and forth between the USMLE and the courts and in the end, the resident successfully dragged it out long enough that he took the Canadian medical exam (which is accepted in Rhode Island but not in all states) and ended up getting his license to practice by circumventing the Step exams entirely.

He's still practicing today. as a psychiatrist.
A wonderful case study in personality disorders.
